As much as I dislike Bama I can't believe they are the 6th seed.

Good matchup!
  1. Alabama has more national championships, and USC has more Heisman trophy winners.
  2. Alabama has Harvey Updyke, and USC has Gypsy Boots.
  3. Alabama has been on NCAA probation three times, and USC has incurred the wrath of the NCAA an astounding six times!
This was an easy call for USC.

Well I'm not going to act like I'm not voting Alabama, but given that Alabama is better in the post season, and has more Super Bowl winning QBs, and at least 2 dynasties with 3 titles in 5 years, and doesn't lose to unranked foes when they are at the top of the college football world(like USC is famous for), I'm going to Roll with the Tide.

But this will be the closest matchup yet IMO.

Alabama also has the most Rose Bowl wins and appearances of any non automatic conference qualifier for the Rose Bowl game I.e. B1G, Pac12

I guess that is up to the voter. I like how a Texas fan put it in the Ohio State vs Nebraska thread. If there was a history book about each team, which one do you think is thicker or most interesting?

Honestly though, I think this matchup, because the numbers are so close on both sides, should be discussed from a historical standpoint. Like, all years considered.

I picked USC because they own most of the stats, IMO they have a better stadium, they have better tradition (but I think I would rather tailgate in Bama), they helped make the Rose Bowl what it is today. I also think USC is far more consistent.

However, @theSabanator20 is making me think about changing with the few arguments he made.

I think location needs to be taken into consideration. USC is in a highly populated area and should get great players. Bama has to go out of state shopping. So in theory Bama has done a lot with less.

It's about the most storied program. Every one of them should count every year.

AP/Coaches/BCS NC's
Alabama 10
USC 7

Conference Championships
Alabama 28
USC 38

All Time Bowls
Alabama 32-24-3
USC 33-17-0

Considering that USC played in a 1 team Conference and that they only had sporadic competition from other teams for most of their existence it's surprising they haven't done better. They are like Texas in the SWC except with more NC's.

Well nobody under-achieves like Texas does.

I will add that USC out-of-conference record is really good. They'll play anybody anywhere. They do not play FCS teams period.

Which year did a 1 loss USC team go to Bama and win, but Bama still won the title?

(I had to throw that in, it will come up)
