ND.

I mean, Knute Rockne, Ronald Reagan, aka. the Gipper, and all those cool B&W old movies and film clips.

Hard to believe that Notre Dame doesn't lead in some of these Categories much less none of them.
Wrap your head around that for a minute.
Notre Dame most Storied Program,,,,,Hardly.

Notre Dame has always played a hard as fuck schedule.

Just play USC, Michigan, and Michigan St in their glory days every year as the starting point....then play another 3 or 4 name teams. You have to give credit to the Domers for balling with whomever wherever.

No offense to the land thieves, but the Sooners basically had to just split with the Bugeaters and Longhorns and walk their way to a 10 win ranked season. The Big 8 was really top heavy.

Much like Boise State goes 12-1 every year....it can be a bit misleading.

Ronald Reagan, other than playing George Gipp in a movie, has nothnig to do with Notre Dame.

Except for being given George Gipp's Letterman sweater.
And speaking at commencement.

Okay - so he has a few things to do with them . . .

ND's fans are mostly Catholic/Irish. Too many of them due to the no BC rules.

OU's fans are mostly BAMF's. Few and far between.

OU>ND

So, so far, with only a couple of exceptions, who made very well-reasoned arguments in their favor, even most OU fans acknowledge ND is more storied but are blinded by devotion. Good to know.

PS I would have done the same. I mean that's why we're fans, right.

This post couldn't be laced with any more media pimped misinformation.

Notre Dame didn't even start playing Michigan on the regular until 1978. They'd only met 5 times in the 91 years prior. 5 times in the first 91 fucking years? That's pathetic for something sold to the idiot masses as a "Long Time Rivalry".
Michigan only has 1/2 of a national title in time they've been playing on the regular. Of course that was from the media trying to save face after pimping them year in and year out since 1948. That's near 50 years. Notre Dame is 16-19-1 all-time against that over pimped Michigan team.
Historically...Michigan is overrated honestly | SportsHoopla Sports Forums

Michigan St was only good for a few years in the 50's ('50, '51, '52, 55) and a couple years in the 60's ('65, '66). The rest of their history is average at best until the last couple of years.

I will give you USC as being a "glory days" regular.

Yeah, do you know why? Mich stopped playing us when we started beating them. Fielding Yost actively tried to blackball ND which in turn forced us to travel all over playing all comers. In a way we owe our national following to Michigan's prejudice. And for the record the series since '78 is tied. Michigan's "edge" in the series is from the beginning when they were the only game in town and ND first learned the sport. In typical Michigan cowardice they wanted Nd to be an easy win and took their ball and went home when there was more parity.

You're also forgetting that during those years you cite, teams like Army and Navy were national powers. Teams we played pretty regularly.

Good post.
It's not like ND didn't have some real scrub teams they played.
Have Played Navy 88 times, Northwestern 48 times, Purdue 86 times, Air Force 30 times, Indiana 29 times.
It didn't matter that they were in no conference at all, they played pushover teams just as much as any team in a conference did.

If College Football is divided into halfs, Oklahoma easily wins the 2nd half with all the 10/11/12 win seasons, dominating their Conference with 14 Straight Conference Championships going 74 games without a loss, Bud Wilkinson going 31 Straight then 47 Straight, and Barry Switzer going 28 Straight and going 32-1-1 with 2 National Championships in his first 3 years as a Head Coach.

Notre Dame is like Michigan with a lot of history in the leather helmet days.
Oklahoma has a more concentrated History and the Story isn't as long, but for the time frame, it can't be beat.

A small little lazy college town on the plains of Oklahoma did the impossible.
Indiana has twice the population that Oklahoma has and ND has Ohio AND Michigan right next door.

Oklahoma never had an advantage over ND, not one.

I know, I was just being sarcastic.

I do love those old Notre Dame/Knute Rockne movies tho.

In the Modern Era, you have to ask why Notre Dame didn't do more with what they had.
Even Texas did more than they did.

Michigan and Notre Dame are literally the most overhyped teams in college football over the last 60 years.

Most wins since 1950 (65 years)

1) Oklahoma - 570 (.756%)

12) Notre Dame - 492 (.675%)

If these 2 teams keep the same pace for the next 30 years would you still reward Notre Dame for what they did in the 1920's?

They are nothing more than a media created sensation, pimped year in and year out with few results.

This is what Notre Dame fans think of the Domers. Notre Dame doesn't wear red. Not even their fans get out and support them. Why should you?

Notre Dame fans rely on the media to keep the glory days of 90 years ago front and center.
