Murray is trying to snuff out the wildfire. Looks like Spezza is staying put...for now.

I still think there's a good chance Spezza gets dealt though and the trade with Columbus makes a lot of sense.

Better not happen though...

As a Sens fan I think this trade would be alright, personally. Brassard and the 4th overall would look alright for Ottawa. Huselius is just cap filler

A 22 year-old center and the 4th overall, along with cap relief in 2 years would look sweet to me. I'd hate to see Spezza go but if he does I could live with that. Cap relief when Karlsson needs a new contract might prove VERY important. As for Spezz I love the guy but his productivity has dropped in recent years and he hasn't become the kind of forward you can use against other top lines yet. I would like to wait and see him finally reach his potential but I would say at this point and after 6 years in the league that there is at least 50/50 chance that it will never happen.

Brassard looked dynamite as a rookie and might flourish under someone other than Hitch and 4th overall pick is a very nice asset.

All this is window dressing though as I doubt this trade goes down.

There is no way Murray can get this right. If he deals, he is in rebuilding mode with an empty cupboard. If he nixes the deal, he is gonna get destroyed because of the perceived value in the rumoured deal. Someday, lardass is going to learn to shut the fuck up when the media is around.

I would think that Columbus is looking for a lower pick to balance it out. Or maybe a role player. It is lopsided on the surface, and Murray's nuts are in a vice.

Like I said in the other thread...Ottawa seems to have the worst luck ever with their stars...

At some point you have to stop blaming "luck" and look deeper.

Well Yashin, Hossa, Heatley, Chara, and Spezza. Am I missing anybody? If its not bad luck id say the Sens are right on par with the Sabres management with finding ways to hold on to their talent.

seems to me they did their best to drive Alfie out of town for a while, too.
can't really blame them for Yashin. can DEFINITELY blame them for picking Redden over Chara, and you can kind of can blame them for picking a sweetheart like Alexandre Daigle over Pronger, too.

Chara and Hossa wanted to stay. Chara SHOULD have stayed. Hossa was dealt for Heatley.

Yashin and Heatley have kind of proven themselves to be first rate assholes.

Let's see what happens with Spezza.

What I don't understand about all this is why Murray felt the need to share this.

Exactly kenny, I don't get it either and you would think that Murray would have learned from the whole Heatley fiasco just to keep his god damn mouth shut.

Instead, he didn't and to me that's a CLEAR message that he's actively shopping Spezza. It was code for "we're looking to move this player."

There are a few others...

Corvo desperately wanted out.
Jason Smith decided to retire rather than hang around "the weirdest locker room" he'd ever been in.
Commodore never got so much as a phone call.
They committed to Redden (incorrectly) and then just left him out to dry.
They misused Antoine Vermette and then traded him for some magic beans.
They seem content with just letting Volchenkov walk away.

sucks that the sens are getting rid of (potentially) spezza.. but that return doesn't please you? thats a little more than i thought they'd get for him.. brassard is pretty solid and has some potential for growth, plus the 4th overall pick.. then you get huselius too who can chip in some offense

maybe i'm underrating spezza but i didnt think he would get that much in return

The 4th overall pick is what would have made that deal IMO. That's a wonderful pick with a lot of top end talent in this year's draft. Brassard is still young and even though he took a step back last year he will still likely be a very good player. Huselius is meh. I don't think that would have been such a horrible trade.

Problem is, Spezza has world beater written all over him, none of those guys do. Mike Modano has talked about signing with another team, and I've said before I think all Spezza needs is a good mentor. I wonder what one freaking season with Mike Modano would do for Spezza's confidence, mindset, and overall game.

alright.. little over a pt per game player for his young career.. plus 2 fantastic seasons playing with a legit superstar..

that trade makes a lot more sense now for columbus, i wonder if they'll pull it off

I will say that with Murray's comments yesterday that I doubt a trade does go down. He basically came out and said, this guys on the market because he's not happy. No one is going to pay full price for him now even if Murray did want to trade him and if he trades him now it will be a far shittier trade then this Columbus rumor.

Murray has to be the worst GM in the league when it comes to PR management and I'm sure this will make the dressing room that much better when October comes around...sigh

Plus as has been said before. Murray has a tendency to make things up to justify trading players. If he made this up then I can't imagine there will be much love between management and the players.

Good job Murray.

I've had it with this team and I mean it this time.

I will not cheer for them until Murray is out. You don't leak private conversations to the media. You just don't do it and what really sickens me is the fact that this is at least the 5th time that something like this has happened.

As I said, I've lost all respect I had for Murray after this and I wouldn't be surprised at all if he said, "Jason, would you be open to be traded?"

And then go on to say it was all Spezza's idea and he wanted to be traded. I agree with forty completely. Murray is a scumbag and this proves it and I'm sure it was Murray who wanted to trade Spezza in the first place.

Again, I will not cheer for this team for as long as Murray is GM and I absolutely mean it. He's a classless piece of shit.

gagne ur in sf right now? where abouts do you live?

I'm back and forth between SF and Tahoe. I'm working up in Tahoe, but the gf lives in San Francisco - Sunset District.

It's a shame the Flyers aren't coming to San Jose this year. Looks like I'll have to make the trip down to LA/Anaheim to catch the back-to-back with the Kings and Ducks.
