Just grading it on one year into the contract, could this be the worst signing in history?

Of course, nothing else matters if BJ comes up big in the playoffs and the Braves win the WS. All will be forgiven.

CC's contract and extension have gotta be up there.

Outside of this season he's been worth every penny.

Don't let one season of good fortune melt your brain.

Though entirely possible, do you really think CC reverts to old form next season? The signs were showing LAST season that CC was on the downside. Even if his 2017 option doesn't kick in ($5mm buyout), he is owed $76mm over the next 3 seasons. He is 300 lbs and has a lot of innings in that left arm.

Tex is owed $67.5mm; and A-Rod $86mm.

Fortunately, those are your only long term commitments, at least until they re-sign Cano.

If I had asked you the same question about John Lackey a year ago, what would you have said?

I don't have a crystal ball.

Well...it seems Brett Favre, I mean Andy Pettitte, has made it official. He will retire after this season. His last home start will be Sunday at YS, and his final start will be in his hometown of Houston next week.

Yankees are holding open auditions next year for their pitching staff.

I don't have a crystal ball.

a year ago he was undergoing tommy john surgery and there have been numerous cases of pitching returning from that with better velocity

i said all preseason that lackey would have a big year

now, two years ago........different story, no faith in that guy at all

and?

he solidified (not nearly a big enough word) the Sox closer position after 2.5 months of mostly a shit show

as big a signing as any other free agent this past offseason

and if you don't think he deserves to be on that list because he's a reliever.......consider another sport to root for

Maybe if he were not such a quiet enigma...........

Well that, and, probably few has read as much on him recently as I have, with a full handfull of writers illustrating what a season for the ages he is having. I wish I remembered where I found these, or I would share. However, I think if most knew he was having one of the better seasons for a reliever as far as batting avg. against, they may think differently.

Don't get me wrong, Uehara's been awesome, but I have a hard time considering a guy pitching 69 innings to be among the biggest signings. I was ecstatic when they signed him and he hasn't disappointed, but innings matter. I do think he should have been in there over McLouth though.

I do think Russell Martin probably should be in there too. He has a 103 OPS+ and he's been providing excellent defense (especially pitch framing) behind the plate.

martin should also be on that list

but you cant argue against the impact uehara has made, 69 innings or not, he has had as big an impact as anyone on that list, my opinion

I think TJ surgery for CC is a good idea. Can't hurt, right?
