It's was damn stupid though. Just announce it was going to pay only. Those that didn't want to pay couldn't get in anyway, but they would have gotten many to sign up. I would have. i hear ya, from the Rivals top brass like Greg, to the Admin's and then to what it appears a remaining JV Mod (or more), they all handled the entire fiasco very poorly.
It is inevitable the board will dissolve, merge with tMB - and all the other Rivals team home boards will be pay, i doubt any of the freebie rivals home boards will remain free.
This was their ultimate goal is my guess.
