This is huge for us. We can keep Whitner or get a FA CB with ease now.

Yes very good news for the 49ers. If they cut Rogers and let Whitner go they will have a lot of play money. Something like 20 million(around there, dont know exact number).

A lot of Whitner chatter now, as well... I even saw SI mention the possibilty of bringing back Rogers... Not all good news...

None of that is good news! Especially the Whitner talk.

Rogers will still have to take a pay cut to remain on the team and we may be able to sign a team friendly deal for Whitner also Gore may not have to take a pay cut so overall I think good and I wouldn't mind Whitner back with a rookie to groom.

I don't see us bringing back Rogers unless he takes a massive pay cut.

I think our most likely scenario is resigning Boldin and Whitner then using the remaining space to front load someone's extension.

Agreed. Boldin was definitely coming back regardless. Of all or other priority free agents, I want Whitner and Dawson back. I think Rogers is gone as is Tarell Brown. Definitely draft a safety to groom and draft a CB high. From what I read, extending Kap is a priority this offseason - and I don't think he's going to get as much money as some believe. I can see a low ball offer say 3 or 4 years 48 million 25 million guaranteed. We'll see...As for Aldon Smith, that 5th year option comes in quite handy and buys us more time to work out an extension and also for him to prove himself OFF the field. The other priority is extending Harbaugh.

This isn't necessarily great news. It will have the effect of driving up prices. Motivation for us to get our young guys locked up before FA starts and contract prices skew upward.

I feel like this helps the Seahawks the most.

It'll help them no doubt because Bennett went from as good as gone to good chance of being resigned.

But it really helps those teams with big money QBs as it gives them more flexibility add some pieces instead of having their hands tied with having to pay 18 million+ to one position

It's also a huge relief to teams that were going to be over the cap in 2014 as they might not have to make some tough cuts to get under the cap.

The only thing that can screw everything up is stupid front offices giving out even bigger contracts. Ideally the larger cap should allow teams to keep more of their homegrown talent and see more guys get paid rather than paid more. But there is always some boneheaded front office that will screw it up for everybody else.

I can only imagine the ridiculous contracts about to be handed out. Hopefully not by us.
