This team has shown for years that they are willing to pay other peoples players top dollar, while penny pinching on our own. Morris despite a drop off in production is the kind of player we should want to keep around and actually reward for what he HAS done for this team.

Can we find some one cheaper?? Sure. Might we find some one who could perform better on the field at a cheaper price? Maybe. Should we have determined without even talking to the man what his expectations are??

Your first paragraph primarily reflects the old FO. Not enough time has elapsed to evaluate the current FO. I truly believe that they do value their own roster and have shown this in many ways. Just because they don't get sentimental & retain a guy who may be in the declining phase doesn't mean that they act in the same manner as the previous regime.

As for your last pt. Who knows? Do any of us truly know what discussions have occurred between the Redskins and Morris and his agent? Again - this is a business and must be treated as such. If Morris moves on then I am alright with that & wish him the best wherever he goes. Today's NFL involves a lot of player movement & even the most successful teams encounter a lot of this. I am alright with this for the Redskins as long as they are successful & I have high hopes for them moving forward.

Agreed.. RB is actually very replaceable. But team leader type SOLID players both on and off the field are not that easy to come by. I see this as a case where the team needs to make good with Alf to make up for sins of the past when we let true Redskins walk because we thought we could easily replace them on the field but didnt realize their real worth was in the example they set for the guys coming in.

And I would rather commit money to a guy like Alf five years from now, and give the other guys we will need to resign a feeling that the Redskins are a family and a solid organization, than go chasing the new hotness and end up wondering why we still are trying to establish a team culture two years from now.

Who are all of these great Redskins players they let go of in the recent past? I have heard this argument before & I don't buy it. The Redskins problems over the last 20+ years have mainly been in not acquiring significant talent. It was not as if they acquired a lot of talent and then let these players go to other teams. Sure - there may be a handful in this category (as there are for all teams), but the list is smaller than for most teams.

Also - this is a new FO. They don't owe anyone anything in regard to past sins. Their job is to build the best team possible. If they feel that that Morris can contribute for a reasonable price - great. If not - let him go both for the sake of the Redskins and Morris.
