alfred morris deserves to get paid ... and if you're not down with that, i've got two words for ya

all we redskins fan discuss is trading him or cutting him.

maybe its just the emotional fan in me ... but i dont want to accept him walking away from this franchise, after the shit he's done -- which has been glossed over -- and not get passed his rookie contract.

I understand the NFL is a business ... but this aint right.

Krush... I agree 100%. Unfortunately we live in the what have you done for me lately generation. Where if a guy isnt the hot shit, its on to the new hotness.

I guess we are old. We miss the days when guys became Redskins and for the most part stayed Redskins thier entire career.

Let's face it. Alfred is not the same back he was his first 2 years. Maybe it's the scheme, maybe he is just worn down. But he is now just an average RB. Couple that with his poor pass blocking, he's not a very effective receiver, and he doesn't have great speed, it makes you wonder where he will end up. He may resign with the skins as no other teams will covet him. But the NFL pays players for what they are expected to do, not what they have done. If he is willing to sign an average RB salary contract, then I'm all for it. Maybe sweeten the pot a bit as he knows the offense, is a great teammate and a hell of a good guy. But he is not elite and will not get that kind of money. And this comes from a huge AM fan. Just look at my avatar.

And this is my issue with the way things work. Even though he is NOT the back he was the first two years, I dare any one to say he did not seriously out perform his rookie contract in those first two years alone. His third year he STILL out performed that contract, though by not as much.

Last year we decided to try and feature Matt Jones, who has some skills, but also has some injury and fumbling issues. So yes his yards per carry were ONLY 3.7 yards per attempt. But his average carries was also cut by a almost 70 touches. JOnes had 144 carries.

Had MOrris been given the work horse load most feature backs get (280-300 range) he would have been an 1100+ yard back and none of this would really be in question right now.

No doubt more carries would have resulted in more yards. But you gotta wonder why they limited his carries. Did they see in training camp that he was struggling? I don't buy into those that say he wasn't drafted by gruden/Scot so they wanted to play their guy. Gruden would play the best guy, it would be stupid not to. I think AM is a cut back runner that thrives in a zone blocking scheme, but not so much in a power game. I also think he is wearing down. Many RBs don't last more than 5 years. They take a pounding. I hope he is here, if not I wish him well.

I agree he's not what he once was for whatever reason but I would love to have him back. Problem is, he probably just isnt worth paying very much.

AM numbers were skewed b/c when he did well is was with the read option RG3 offense. Defenses had to worry about RG3 running which left huge holes for Morris. Jy19 is right. He is just an average back. He is only worth the vet minimum.

Krush who would you want AM or Elliot? It looks like Elliot is going to be there at #21 and I think it would be very hard to pass up. I view Elliot as a franchise back b/c he can be on the field for all 3 downs and does everything well like a Matt Forte. IF SM was thinking about taking Gurley last year at #5 or in a trade down then he has to look at Elliot at #21. Both of these backs are very similar.

Kinda agree with Krush. It's hard to find a "classier" act than AlMo, and for that alone, he deserves to be a Redskins for life.

OTOH, I like it when the Redskins win, and to win more consistently they need to have a productive running game. They did not last year, and AlMo did not crush people on first contact like he did his previous three years. Is it the scheme? Is it the milage? I'm betting is probably both.

What is most unfortunate is that AlMo will probably end up going to a team that runs a zone blocking scheme like what the redskins ran (maybe a backup in Atl under lil' Shanny?), and will probably do well there.

Ideally, the redskins offer him a modest salary upgrade, chance to compete for the starting job, and some easy-to-reach incentives, so that this fine, upstanding young man can be one of the new faces of the new Redskins.

Scheme might be the answer for Alf. It could be wear and tear too. Like him or not Mike Shanahan is one of the best running game coaches around.

I feel ya on Alf. I think a couple things that will serve him well are. He was wise with his money or so it appear. He was down to earth/had his head on right. He was/is a genuine good person. I'dlike for him to stick n stay as a Redskin as well.

We all love Alf, by all accounts you won't find a better guy. The fact that we got him with the pick acquired for McNabb makes it even sweeter. But the guys above are right, for whatever reason he is an average back right now, if that. We need better at the position.

OK - so exactly how much would you pay him moving forward? These are business decisions & both players and the FO understands this. I am sure that Morris is on great terms with everyone at Redskins Park and these type of decisions are not easy for anyone. However - at the end of the day you have to remove emotion from the equation & make the smart moves.
