A lot of people think Jackie Wilson could have been an opera singer.

EDIT: Actually, he trained as an opera singer. But black men didn't *do* opera back in those days.

Yeah, Pavoratti RIP. He was the best. This guy is supposed to be the hopeful to take his place as the GOAT. The guy was a construction worker in Romania and got discovered at some cheesy, local talent show:

I hope he does a Christmas CD. Pavoratti singing "O Holy Night" makes me weepy n' shit.

Somebody at one time told me that Pat Benatar started with opera but I have never been able to confirm this.

Close. Pat Benatar's mother was an opera singer. Like Mariah Carey's mom.

Wow, Costel is awfully impressive. His voice is amazing, but he still needs some training to get on Pavarotti's level. He's certainly not far, though.

Indeed. His instant fame always reminds me of:

Here's a funny trivia. AC/DC's current agent and the bass player, Cliff Williams, live at my club. So, you see them around at stuff and I've gotten to know them both a bit. Well, the agent dude (play tennis with him) had a batmitsvah for his daughter and Brian Johnson was there. Anyway, when he sings normally, he sounds A LOT like Dean Martin. So, after many drinks and many requests, he finally got up there and sang That's Amore. Moreover, it was really good. That was very f'in cool:
