What? did your point change?? You said Dak was the reason. No one said incredible defense. We had horrible defenses. We needed adequate run stopping defenses. The home Green bay playoff game for example. Letting AR get in field goal position with only a few seconds left. Awful.
Where did I say Dak was the reason we haven't been to a Super Bowl? Where? I said Dak couldn't take the much more talented rosters(but still flawed) rosters we had before he got paid to an NFCCG so why would you expect an older, less mobile version surrounded by this OL instead of one with 3 HOFer's, a FA Dowdle instead of prime Zeke and a defense that still can't stop the run. We are over the cap and have 14 FA'S of our own. None of that is Daks fault. If he were in Detroit he might win a Super Bowl. We don't have that roster for him

I was listening to moving the chains with Pat Kerwin and Jim Miller and they had Schotty on for a long interview. I'll say this, Schotty is a well spoken guy. He does a good job of articulating what he looks for and he's definitely a sharp guy

I need to listen to him more. When he was first picked I was more frustrated that it seemed they just grabbed the next closest guy down the hall so they didn't have to change anything and it bothered me that him being a "fan of Dak" seemed like the main reason he was hired. But I've come around to liking the move more and more and I really like the rest of the coaches and in particular the OC and OL coach. I'm fine with Harris being gone too. I know a bunch of you guys wanted him as DC or even HC but you can't criticize the DBs and how they play and how they seem uninterested and then also think the DB coach deserves a promotion. I was ready for a clean sweep of the coaching staff. Next up the front office...

I liked Harris, but I don't mind seeing him leave for Eberflus. Yeah, the more I listen to Schotty, the more I think he could turn the team around, but that's only if the club gets serious about bringing in talent. As Brock Lesnar said when coaching on TUF..."I can't make chicken salad out of chicken shit"...

I really only looked for us and while I do think we should be higher I don't really care much about these rankings and especially preseason. I will, however, say how can you put us below Carolina?

Giants sign Russell Wilson. Obviously a stop gap, but they'll win more games this season
They potentially could beat out Dallas for #3 in the NFC East. Especially if Dallas screws up the draft. IDK though.

I think it is going to be a 2-3 year process for Dallas to even make the playoffs. The FO has clearly fucked this up again. They not really signing anybody and Micah situation is not good.

The Eagles may be a little weaker, but they still are better than Dallas. Dallas is going to have a problem beating Philly because they are not good enough up front. Dallas needs better line play to beat Philly. Both sides of the ball. The Commanders probably improve.

Over/under on our win total dropped from 8.5 to 7.5. So that's predicting under .500 and is about as independent of an opinion as you'll get. I can't remember a year when I'd see 7.5 and not pounce on the over. Right now I'm not even sure which I think the bet is and especially if the Giants are better and they seem like they will be with their offseason moves and assuming they grab a defensive stud at #4 and another player at #34 which is basically a 1st rounder. I can't make a strong argument as to why we will win more games than the Giants in 2025, but I think we are better and we will - not sure about sweeping them this time though. Back to the over/under if I had to pick I'd pick over 7.5 but again it's not like I could name 8 games I'm confident in. As we all know the caliber of the teams on the schedule in the preseason and midseason look VERY different, but right now, this is not an easy looking schedule. For example, with what they did with their OL (and I think they grab a RB early), I think the Bears are going to be better:

Home

  • Giants
  • Eagles
  • Commanders
  • Packers
  • Chiefs
  • Chargers
  • Vikings
  • Cardinals

Away

  • Giants
  • Eagles
  • Commanders
  • Bears
  • Broncos
  • Lions
  • Raiders
  • Jets
  • Panthers

When I look at this it gives me a bad feeling. They should be able to at least compete against the Giants,Raiders,Jets and Panthers on the road. Maybe they win these four.

At home I see them competing against the Cardinals and Giants. Maybe they win these two.

Unless they really kill it in the draft this season could go sideways very quickly... 6 wins may be their ceiling.

Maybe they shock me and split with the Commanders. This would be 7 wins.

It's why saying we should draft only for "need" is nonsense. We need to add difference making players, not just add a kid who can start because his competition is Hoffman or Tolbert. That's how Mazi and Guyton got their jobs, and it's why we are still in need of an impact NT and LT. If the best player on the board fits a need, that's a grand slam. But we can't take lesser talent because we need it to contend this year. We aren't contenders. This is a rebuild
