Tennessee made Jim Chaney the highest paid OC in the country. I liked Chaney at UGA and he was better than what we have now, but it was an overspend by Tennessee.

It's an arms race. It used to be weight rooms and training tables that schools spent their money on to be The Best Thing Since Free Sex. Some schools added wild features in their locker rooms and edgy uniforms to be TBTSFS. Scoreboards!! Make that mofo so big you've got a dozen steel columns to keep it in the air. And stadium improvements that increase capacity and have better seating with Wi-Fi, daunting food courts, private suites, etc., etc. Naturally the debt loads have been going up and up and up while all this is happening. Now the salaries have gone hog wild. It's all well and good until we hit a serious recession and then a lot of schools will hit the wall. Want to see realignment? A serious, deep recession that really hits the pocketbooks of these Athletic Directors would make that a near certainty.
