All conferences are not created equally...

But if you guys want to sit through noncompetitive ass whippings.... F it..

TCU was 13-1 and all everything... They deserved the big boy seat at the table .... They were the BEST team out there!!!

They still fucked up from that 65-7 beating they took in the national championship game...
And yet they somehow beat Michigan the Big Ten champ. They had won the Big 12 which by the way included both Texas and Oklahoma.

All this discussion. Someone explain to me why the AAC and its members are considered a Division1 FBS conference? Should they not be moved down to the FCS? Army at 11-1 (12-1 if they beat Navy), will have the "best loss" of any 1 loss team. Any, yet zero chance of playing for the championship of the level they are in theory a part of (FBS).
Strength of schedule is important.

Army has one victory against a ranked team, Tulane. All their other wins are against teams that SEC teams schedule as cupcakes:

Lehigh
FAU
Rice
Temple
Tulsa
UAB
East Carolina
Air Force
North Texas

Heck, last year Army was scheduled as one of LSU's cupcakes, and lost 62-0.

If any 3-loss team gets in over Army, it would be proof of a bogus system in which the number of losses is less important than historical pedigree.
No, it's proof that not all conferences are taken seriously as contenders for the title, even if they happen to be in the FCS. Army had a chance to show how they'd do against a playoff team this year, Notre Dame. The final score was 49-14.

Oh, I can hear the wailing from down in Alabama. It sounds like, "Don't people know we are in SEC, true we lost 3 games and scored just 3 points against a mediocre Oklahoma (late in the season the way), those losses should not count against us because well, we are in the SEC, this is so unfair. Next year will schedule a second FCS team so we can avoid losing 3 games".

I might go to the Birmingham Bowl just to see if the SEC shorts Pimp Vandy shows up. He's freaking hilarious

The ALABAMA AD is already threatening to cancel tough OOC games....and only play 4 cupcake games going forward....cancelling FSU next year...
HE has a strong point thanks to the INDIANA AT LARGE SELECTION.

As a Longhorn fan, I am wondering why we should bother playing Ohio State next year in Columbus??
What possible good can come from that game.

If 2025 Texas goes (6-2) in the SEC and beats UTEP instead of playing Ohio State....they are in the playoffs at (10-2)
If 2025 Texas goes (6-2) in the SEC and loses to Ohio State....they are out of the playoff at (9-3).

Indiana set a horrible precedent that might end OOC games as we know it.

His point is made much worse by the fact that Alabama missed out because they couldn't handle easy *in conference* games.

Hell if anything - Alabama might have actually made it in if they hadn't had such a soft OOC schedule that didn't help them make up for their bad performance in conference.

That's a function of playing 8 conference games man

Don't know whet to tell you other than go to 9 league games and you will see a leaner OOC schedule

And it's not giving anyone a pass

Its realizing with 12 teams how you're not going to get 12 0/1 loss teams with no bad losses and lots of good wins

So you need to prioritize what you value. And CFB is about winning. If you want to it be CBB and be about scheduling then that's cool but that's not how it is now so you just can't lose multiple games to teams you're supposed to beat

If it were up to me i wouldn't put Bama in and id have SC in instead since their losses are better but i know people would freak since SC lost to both Bama and Ole Miss but losing by 21 to a 6-6 team is disqualifying to me when you're 9-3 ( as is losing to s 4-8 team when you're 9-3 )
I doubt that you have ANY IDEA of what a tough schedule looks like! You are so enamoured with the B1G that you believe anything pushed by the B1G teams. The B1G's easy schedule is a function of playing 9 B1G teams and opting out of tough OOC games. Why is it that SEC teams play more ranked teams by playing 8 SEC teams than B1G plays in their ENTIRE regular season including NINE B1G opponents?

From 1990 to 2023 (34 years):
The B1G teams on average played during THE REGULAR SEASON: 393.64 games, 22.50 top 5 teams, 50.86 top 10 teams, and 109.64 top 25 teams.
The SEC teams on average played IN-CONFERENCE games...............: 276.64 games, 32.64 top 5 teams, 57.14 top 10 teams, and 112.36 top 25 teams.
That means that on average the B1G teams played 117 more sh!tty teams than the SEC teams. Talk about padding ones schedules!!

Ultimately it doesn't matter how "tough" your schedule is when you lose to 2 6 loss teams

End of the day of they win one of those 2 they're in

They didn't

The problem is that the SEC is a victim of its own success. The SEC is so strong that they play more quality teams in an eight game schedule than the B1G does in ALL of its regular season games. SO canceling OOC games will only slightly alter is #'s and decrease the SOS of the other schools like OSU.
As I posted above.

If the SEC really wants to make easier conference schedules then it needs to move to FEWER in conference games and DROP tough OOC games. That would mean 7 SEC opponents and 5 unranked OOC teams.
With use 7/8 of the SEC schedule we get IN-CONFERENCE games...............: 7/8*276.64 games = 242.06 games, 7/8*32.64 = 28.56 top 5 teams, 7/8*57.14 = 50.00 top 10 teams, and 7/8*112.36 = 98.32 top 25 teams. Then play 157.79 cream-puff teams so we can match the B1G schedule!

SMU has beaten exactly 0 teams ranked in the current Top 25.

They also didn't lose 3 regular season games.
That's largely because they didn't play any ranked teams. If they'd played Alabama's schedule vs Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri, South Carolina and LSU, they'd be lucky to lose only three games.

Same thing goes for Clemson, except that they DID lose three regular season games. If Alabama and Clemson were compared, the tie breaker would be head to head common opponents. Their common opponents were Georgia and South Carolina. Alabama beat both. Clemson lost to both. Yet Clemson is in and Alabama is out for one reason and one reason only - Clemson played a weaker schedule in a weaker conference.

While Alabama got left out, it's far better than last year when both Georgia and Florida State deserved to go and got robbed because there were only 4 slots. This new system isn't a perfect system, but it's a better system.

I'm bummed. And tired of playing Michigan
I know. Why not some team BAMA has not played or has not played in a long time.

Overall not sad BAMA got left out. Way to inconsistent anyway. One week look like a world beater and the next the walk on jv squad.

Fear the Campbell Camels!
I have a Campbell Fightin’ Camels T-Shirt.

Years ago, I was visiting my Dad when he lived in NC at one point and we decided to take a road trip to CU to get some gear because we thought their mascot and team name were cool.

/end pointless story

We had fun though.

Well that seems unfair, it's Indiana, after all. They should never have to apologize for their OOC, and they're not the first/only P4 team to schedule this way. Blame the conference for expanding to the point where you can dodge all but the worst teams. They lined up 12 times and won 11 in a power conference.

It's a cool town/campus. We would go there in high school for drill team meets.

If Bama wanted in, they shouldn't have gotten curb stomped by a bad Oklahoma team.
