I'm assuming he'll be cut, but have no clue as to when. Each passing day he's here is another day when he could get hurt and lock us down with that option. Of course, I've heard some scuttlebutt on trading him. But that will require re-working his option and there's probably not a whole lot we can get for him.

So, why wouldn't we cut him tomorrow? That would also provide a symbolic good faith first step in getting Kirk signed to a new deal.

Problem with cutting him tomorrow is, lets say he signs with Dallas or Philly Wednesday. You dont want ti give him an extra two months with the play book in the event he goes to a division rival.

So IF he is flat out cut, it wont come until the nigh before the league year starts. And I think between now and then they will work every option to try and trade him. Outside the Conference preferably. If we got say a 6th rounder from the Bills, would you be upset at the extra draft pick??

No I wouldn't but I had a vision/dream that he got hurt and we got stuck with the option. I also had a vision we'd win today, so take that with a grain of salt.

If he gets hurt doing something NON football related, we simply IR him for NON football related issues, and we would NOT be on the hook for the guarantee

That's true. Ideally, I'd like to trade him away and, in the process, see if there's a market for his services. That, in turn, would boost his trade value, but I can't believe it would be by too much.

My question is why should we cut him tomorrow? There is no rush. As outlandish as it sounds, there may be a desperate team that needs a QB (Houston???) that might entertain a trade so that they don't have to risk not landing hiM if he goes to the open market.

The problem is that everybody knows the redskins are going to cut RG3, and the list of teams with idiotic GM's that "don't want to risk" losing RG3 to another team on the open market is very short (made shorter by GMSM heading the Redskins).

I can think of only these teams that MIGHT trade a low draft pick for RGMe: Dallas, Cleveland, possibly the Rams.

Jax doesn't need him (Bortles).
Chip Kelly might have done that, but he's been fired.
Raiders don't need him.
Tampa doesn't need him.
Tennessee doesn't need him.
Buffalo won't do it - Taylor and the backup are ok.
The Jets GM won't do that either - Bowles just guided them to a 10-6 record with Ryan Freakin' Fitzpatrick.
SF? Though the GM basically destroyed that team last offseason, I don't think they can be counted on either...

Most likely RG3 is cut at the latest possible date for nothing. It is what it is.

They do still have to sign cousins, who put up player of the year type numbers, so its not going to be an easy sign for Washington. They are going to feel like they are overpaying to keep him. I doubt if Griffin takes over as starter if cousins leaves, but its one and done and a full year of healing could make Griffin an option even if its one and done.

So you at least hold him until Cousins is signed.

They will sign Cousins to an extension & will pay him pretty big $$ - it is just how it is now in the NFL, and he is certainly worth the risk. Worst case - they franchise him, but I truly doubt that happens.

No way in hell RG3 will be on the Redskins next season. All of this is in the best interest of all parties.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Redskins will release Robert Griffin III this offseason.

This is not exactly breaking news. Washington was never going to pay Griffin's $16.155 million, fifth-year option, and Griffin was not going to restructure his deal just to spend another season sitting behind Kirk Cousins. It is just a matter of time. The interesting part of the report is Rapoport's assertion that owner Daniel Snyder forced GM Scot McCloughan and coach Jay Gruden to keep Griffin on the roster all season. Even with a great personnel man and a good coach, Snyder cannot stop meddling. Griffin should reemerge in a quarterback battle or as a high-profile backup next season.

I said from day 1, that Snyder was not going to cut Griffin until he saw Cousins first.

True - but it is certainly better than say 5 years ago & slowly getting to the pt where he is a small part of personnel matters. Rock bottom had to be when Zorn was in DC and supposedly Snyder, Zorn & Cerrato would have Fri lunches to discuss the plans for the upcoming game. Talk about a lack of football knowledge.

Funny and sad all at the same time.

There is the rumor that Cousins won't begin negotiations until he's cut. But I stress that's a rumor only. If true, I'd cut him now. Also, there's the issue of that $16M option. We'd have to get him to negotiate out of that, and that may not be possible because he'd want to us to cut him to make him a free agent.

Who knows?

Honestly, I don't see anyone trading for RG3 and i see no way he agrees to renegotiate his deal to facilitate a trade as it is in his best interest to hit the FA market so he can pick his next team. The only way I see a trade happening is if we find a suitor and agree to eat a portion of his salary for next year. Even that is very remote. No way does it make sense to eat $4-6M just to get a 4 th round pick next year. So he will most likely be cut. But there is no rush to do so. It only helps Robert and our competitors and not the team by cutting him early.

I don't put stock in those rumors, but they could require that RG3 be gone before they sign a deal. But I even doubt that.
