Actually new drug rules have changed that. Von Miller is no longer in the drug program for the NFL. If a player can stay clean for 2 years straight then they actually have the slate wiped clean. So now Von would have the first strike where he would just receive more tests but no suspension.

I do agree though there needs to be some kind of language put into the contract to deter him from some of that.

Von Miller released from NFL’s drug program

Thanks CD - I did not know that.

Ian Rapaport just reported that the relationship between Elway and Miller did thaw a little over the weekend with their conversation at the Ring Ceremony and seems to have the two sides back on track. Honestly I would say this Fletcher Cox deal makes things a bit easier. Wouldn't be hard to keep the old overall numbers from before and now just insert the guaranteed money way they did things. Broncos don't have to put all the guaranteed money into an account day 1 but Miller gets his 3-years pretty much fully guaranteed.

Miler, be confident in your ability to spend wisely and sign on the dotted line. You don't need all of that. Hopefully he is holding out for more money to give to charity, right? ;)

I hope so. I mean even that say $60 million in guarantees should be enough for 10 lifetimes. IF he gets the full $114 million of the deal man that is more than one person should be able to spend on themselves. So yeah I would hope he puts some of that money to good use.

Makes ya sick when you see how much guarantee money he gets, and could live a lifetime on yet it isn't good enough. Yeah I know, the price in the NFL, but man...

Oh it is true. That is why there is such a disconnect between fans and players during contract negotiations. I get that this is the going rate and if I had the chance I would probably be doing something similar in trying to get fair market value for my services but man still seems crazy that a guy is getting paid that kind of money to play a game.

Yeah and when the majority of these guys come from nothing and work their way out, and they are also the ones who have to put in all the hard work to get to where they are (something I think a lot of fans overlook with an athlete, many think they are just born with talent and don't work at it... It helps to be born with the athletic ability, but it takes a lot of time and hard work to actually be good enough to play at the college and then to top that off, that much more work to make it to the NFL. But I mean you are generally playing a game you love (not always the case) and 60 million is a lot of money for that.

Oh I agree. It really is what the industry is willing to pay and I never hold a grudge for a player wanting the most money they can get. Their window is very small to make enough to support them and their family for a lifetime. Can't fault them for wanting the most they can get. I also know a lot of people that have working towards their careers for years upon years and yet make $30,000 or less but they are doing what they love. They knew though going in that the career path they chose wasn't going to make them rich and chose to continue down that path.

Von is a superstar and has a torch to carry for the next wave of superstars in terms of salary for the NFLPA.

Let me ask you a question. If a co worker who sat next to you made 20 % more than you and you knew for a fact you provided better value (in terms of money generated or saved in your company. A quantitative number or ROI) to your company than the other guy or girl , would you settle for a pay raise that still paid you 20 % less than him? Probably not. It's human nature to value oneself and compare your worth to others in your business or company.

The real problem is the NFLPA has continue to include these stupid franchise tags in their collective bargaining agreements.

If my job was offering me 60 million a year to do what I do I would be perfectly fine and happy if the guy next to me made more then me. Because I would be way overpaid to begin with and I'd appreciate 60 million dollars and retire as fast as my contract would allow. :), but that is just me.

From a players stand point I get it, and that's why I understand it. But in this case no employee working with Von is making more then he is being offered, soooooo.

yeah I would be fine with 60 million dollars. I think it would be easy to not care what the guy next to me was making if you were flashing 60 mil at me, because I know how to spend my money wisely...... and that is way more then Ill ever need..... but that is just me.

I get what Von is doing and I am not saying I wouldn't do the same thing (getting every penny)... I am just speaking from a personal standpoint that for us little people passing down 60 million seems crazy... That has nothing to do with Von's demands... Just a comment in general with the thought of 60 million dollars in front of you.... but for from Von's standpoint..... I get it.

I get,I do. It's just the way it is in the world of pro sports nowadays. The only thing that I wonder about is how long can this keep going till the fans can't go to games as much or at all because the owners have to keep jacking up ticket prices and concessions or start having to release these guys in their prime because cap, etc. I mean it can only go so far before there is major backlash with all the cost to put a good competitive team on the field and keep the seats full. I know it won't change in my lifetime but sooner or later,it's going to come crashing down. It has too.

Of course you Joe Average would be happy but if you were just 1 of 10 ppl in the world that could do your job , I bet you would have a different ego . That is Von Miller. That's the difference. He has a skill set that 99.99999999% of the working population does not have so how do you value that except against the other 9 ppl.

Also this is exactly why Elway leaked the contract numbers to elicit this response from the working masses. Looks like it worked as designed

Right, way different comparing my job to an NFL job. :)

I mean I did just get over my busy time of the year, but right now in the summer I can chat online with my fellow hooplians.

Gimme 60 mil to do that and I won't care if the person next to me is doing it for 80 mil. :)

That's called a hometown discount which happens. I wonder if at some point( I hope not with Von ) that the hard ass Elway negotiating tactics does not come back to bite him in the arse.

Billionaires negotiating with millionaires. All I care about is a happy Von Miller being a Bronco for life.
