I know Hue has a good rep, and Dalton certainly took strides this year, but...

How much of that was Hue and how much of that was AJ Green healthy, Jones Healthy, Sanu Healthy, and biggest, Eifert healthy.

Hue failed to move Green around and create matchups, especially in Pitt game, to get him the ball, and get him open. Overall, I wasn't overly impressed. A lot of movement before the snap, but the results didn't seem to differ from previously.

Why anyone would want the Browns job is beyond me.

I thought he did a good job in CIN...everybody needs horses...not many out there turn sh!t into sugar.

You hit it at the top...Dalton was a much better player this year...holding it together with McCarron, only, you know who kept them from delivering last week. Should still be playing.

He had the 6th ranked scoring offense in the NFL with Jason Campbell and Bruce Gradkowski at QB in 2010. He's a miracle worker as a playcaller. He's also getting personell say with their FO. Good for Hue and great move by the Browns

Interesting info.. Mike Silver from NFL.com says Lewis offered a succession plan with Hue as the next HC to try to keep him here

Interesting info.. Mike Silver from NFL.com says Lewis offered a succession plan with Hue as the next HC to try to keep him here

So many questions about this:

1) Is it true? Apparently Mike Silver is a close friend or at least a confidant of Hue's. He knows everything he is doing and he tends to pimp him and his candidacy. I have no idea what the two of them have this relationship, but I've heard about it before today. That said, is this Silver making Hue out to be more than he is or is it true?

2) If it's true, who authorizes Marvin to make such a deal? Is it Mike Brown's idea? If it's Mike Brown's idea, you know that Marvin must (at the very least) be happy with where he'll be placed in the scenario. As much negative press Marv is getting this week, the fact of the matter is that if he were fired (or resigned) from the Bengals, he would be a head coach somewhere else by next offseason. Marvin would be an extremely easy sell to a lot of fanbases - Particularly those that have struggled in the past and just want to be competitive in the short-term.

3) What are Marvin's intentions? Does this mean that he's getting ready to step down in the next few years? Is he sick of it? Or is Mike offering him something after coaching?

Silver's transparent about the fact that Hue's his best friend in the league. He basically does PR work for him in the media. I definitely believe his report though. You do bring up an interesting point about whether Marvin was making an empty promise or if it was a formal offer from the organization. Lewis is getting into his late 50s and has been a head coach for almost 15 years. I wouldn't be shocked if he's getting ready to retire in the next year or two. This would have been the perfect spot for Hue. Other than Whitworth the core players on offense are just hitting their prime. He would have been inheriting the best offensive personnel in the league

That's why it is a head-scratcher if true..... Why would you go to work in the dumpster fire that is Cleveland, when you know what you got here in Cincinnati? Let's say Marvin coaches 1 more season and then turns it over to Hue.... You have AJ Green still in his prime, two high draft picks for tackles, at least one (maybe 2) above average guards and a quarterback that you groomed at an affordable price for a franchise quarterback. Aside from injuries, you're looking at a perennial top 10 offense if you are in charge. And the defense has a bunch of pieces that should be good for a number of years and you have a decent personnel man that apparently doesn't want to go anywhere...... Plus, even after a 'bad' year, the ownership won't fire you - You have to be REALLY bad to get the axe under the Brown family.

If the 'succession' plan was true, it must mean that Hue really, really wanted to be a HC now and didn't want to bank on something he wasn't sure was really going to happen.

I also wonder if maybe there's an ego aspect to the decision as well. Even if he won a SB with the Bengals there would always be the argument that he just finished the job Lewis started. Now he gets to take over and organization and really make it his own.
He also declined an interview with the Giants to take the job. That's arguably the best coaching job in the NFL for an offensive minded coach. A huge market, organizational stability, franchise QB, transcendent WR. He was either desperate for any HC job or the Browns made him a good offer

Yeah, that was a head scratcher as well.... The Giants are a solid franchise, for all the reasons you list. He and his agent had to think it was a long shot.
