So is this the year to not go heavy on RB?

Last year I had the best RB bunch in my league even though most were not drafted. This year, there's been a lot of movement and RBBCs being planned. Elliot is likely going first round and he was an ideal second round pick. My idea was RB RB WR RB QB. So many receivers end up on FA each year that produce I feel it's a waste of time to avoid a needed position for that big number 1 receiver. But usually having a top receiver helps you get off to a strong start(like undefeated first few weeks or one loss). Receivers tend to win games in September and October, and backs win games in November and December. Outside of whoever I draft round 1(and it's planned for late August), I am not really liking many RB situations outside of McCoy, Miller(and that is a ?), Forte(another ? based on KR) and Hyde.

I could just go and get Dez, Green, or Nelson in round 2 instead of a RB but in the fourth round there is better WR/QB/TE options than there are RBs. Third round would be a round where I would have to take a chance on someone with RB late 1/2 potential. I like to have a strong RB tandem but is this the year where a WR is a better round 2 investment than a RB?

STOP!!!!

Just go into the draft and let the draft come to you... Don't be set for one plan, it will fail, thats what happens... you will end up changing your plan numerous times... so don't limit yourself...

I'm not changing my plan. My big plan is RB RB but if the desired RB 2 is not there in second or if I feel I can get them in third, then I am going WR. The one thing I try to take note on is injuries. If my top RB gets hurt, I have to rely on the next RB I draft. WR it's not a season killer. In 2013. I think JC is one of my targets with a plan to get West as well in later rounds. What I really am looking at is the best players in the league and how they go about the draft. The draft is usually position based more than BAP. And I did indeed get rid of the two players I needed to to get the league stronger and recruited someone from the CBS baseball league to take one of the spots.

Also, I'm hoping to get Cobb at a steal based on last year.

In my opinion a legit WR 1 is worth more than an unproved RB 2 (depending on the players) a lot of these unproved RBs who had a good season last year but that was it. I don't know how much to trust all those guys, I rather not strike out when I know I'm gonna have to take flyers

I don't know how you can make a blanket statement like "WR win you games in September and October, and RB win you games in November and December." -- I mean, where do you come up with something like that?

Broken record speaking here, but you cannot go into a draft thinking positions like that.

If you know where you're picking, you can kind of guestimate who you may select, but beyond that it's BAP. You forcing yourself to take a QB in the 5th, no matter what, is just nonsense, imo.

As others said, just take the bpa at least early. I mean there's a little more too it than that, but you shouldn't be passing on a really good wr for a pretty good rb in the 2nd round. There are PLENTY or rbs.

A team built like say Julio, AJ, Edelman, D Lewis, L Murray is at least as good as one built AP, Charles, Edelman, Baldwin, Decker

I don't know how you can play to go rb-rb-wr-wr and even plan on specific players, no clue what others will draft, ppl say this year after year on these boards, it baffles me

I'd take the first, but point is going wr even in your first 3 rounds really isn't bad. Idk why people obsess over getting rbs and needing rbs to win in December.
bc it works for me

Mostly you want a balanced roster.

That's fine, but wr works for me. My point with the original post was you can build a good team either way, so I hate seeing people lock themselves into "I need 2 great rbs".
agreed, its always my goal but I don't hold to it often

The only problem with going WR-WR-WR is that you box yourself in... you now HAVE to draft a RB... you can't get a TE, you can't get a QB... Not saying you would, but you also want to have options...

The biggest problem with having a set plan and sticking to it is that you lose out on values.... Players always fall in drafts, you want to be flexible enough that you can draft those players, and not let it hurt your team...

That's probably true, but if you took 3 wrs with your first 3 picks I'm assuming they were all bpa. So for you to not have gone wr wr wr you would have to "reach" for a RB theoretically. My main point is be flexible with how you build your team. That may mean rb rb or it may mean wr wr wr. And either could put you in a box but that doesn't make it wrong.

unless the draft order is completed I wouldn't think about the order I would pick players in.

If I had the first or 2nd player I can at least figure out "okay I want Bell or Gurley" so I'm taking a RB in round one. let me research some good wr/rb that I can steal at the end of round 2

Been that way for a few years now where the top 10 WRs seem about set and are pretty safe and the top 10 RBs come from just about anywhere and half the 1st rounders bust.

I mean last year I won my big money league after drafting Andrew Luck in the 1st. And it was mostly because I got first round QB play out of Blake Bortles the second half of the season. It doesn't really matter what you do as long as you end up with 3+ studs and some good filler.
