OK be gentle with me, I'm a fucking idiot with this stuff.
Here's the premise: Moving to Tennessee in 6 years. I want to be able to watch my local Washington/Maryland teams without paying for all the cable channels, if I can even get what I want down there. And I'm sure as Hell not breaking out a laptop to catch the third period of the Caps game via an iffy stream.
So the solution I believe is to pay a buddy here to rent a cable box, then buy a Slingbox and hook it up for remote access to that signal. Having never done this that's problematic in itself. But what I really want to do is be able to watch on my smart TV in a way that's as easy as switching over to Netflix.
I'm about to buy a new TV. I'm told they now have web browsers but something tells me that's not like a web browser on a laptop. So would I need to channel this whole thing through a Roku or similar devise? Can I just go to Slingbox on my TV the way I go to Netflix?
