OK be gentle with me, I'm a fucking idiot with this stuff.

Here's the premise: Moving to Tennessee in 6 years. I want to be able to watch my local Washington/Maryland teams without paying for all the cable channels, if I can even get what I want down there. And I'm sure as Hell not breaking out a laptop to catch the third period of the Caps game via an iffy stream.

So the solution I believe is to pay a buddy here to rent a cable box, then buy a Slingbox and hook it up for remote access to that signal. Having never done this that's problematic in itself. But what I really want to do is be able to watch on my smart TV in a way that's as easy as switching over to Netflix.

I'm about to buy a new TV. I'm told they now have web browsers but something tells me that's not like a web browser on a laptop. So would I need to channel this whole thing through a Roku or similar devise? Can I just go to Slingbox on my TV the way I go to Netflix?

Everything you do now, will be obsolete in 6 years.

Roku would do it but a smart TV will have the Sling app also I believe. But in 6 years my guess is there will be more apps and ways to watch them. Who knows but then

LOL I don't need the newest and greatest, if my new tv (as of tomorrow) will have the app loaded I'm good right?

Any new tv will have all the apps and then some. Also, if you have a smartphone or tablet and wifi.... you can always stream from those devices.

Yeah I don't know how to do that. I mean I know how to watch my local Comcast on my tablet but when I leave the house I can only get the national channels, not my local. And I hate watching anything on a tablet, a 50" screen is better than a 9" screen. But I do not know how to stream from my phone to my TV, I'll need to make friends with a 20 year old down there.

Wait, that didn't come out right.

New TV hooked up, no Slingbox app. I also can not get audio through the stereo as I had it with my old set up. I had the power on the amp by mistake, when I put the audio input jack in I heard a loud buzz. Now it won't work. Went back to the old TV with the same set up and it will now not work.

Did I blow out the input when I tried with the power on? I tried another input, for Phono, and same results.

As long as you're not in a blacked out area NHL.tv will let you stream the Capitals games with the local announcers (you also have the option to listen to the away announcers). MLB.tv is the same way. Both of these options are about $100.

I've personally never tried the NFL Sunday Ticket to be able to say whether it's good or not.

If you're just looking for sports in general for a streaming cable alternative I've noticed that YouTube TV has mostly sports on the majority of the time. YouTube TV is $35.

How would I access these through my TV? Don't see apps for either of these.

Are you sure? I have those apps on all of my devices excluding Sunday Ticket.

YouTubeTV was the only one that was loaded. Finding the other apps is very tedious, there is no search function so I am scrolling. Found MLB.TV but learned I needed to create a Samsung account. What a pain in the ass. How the fuck did they decide where to put the letters on their keyboard and why do they not just match a normal keyboard? But I digress.

As a Red Sox fan in Maryland I'd like to be able to watch them but I can't tell what it costs. I opened the app and they just show some random spring training games that have not started yet.

Anyway thanks for the tips, I need to fuck around a bit. Also learned the reason my TV will no longer play through the stereo is it's a digital signal going to an analog receiver so I need a converter. Weird as my previous TV was not that old and clearly digital as well and it worked. I do not understand this. I don't understand a lot of this. :)

If you want to be able to watch all of the teams, it'll be $115 for the season but if you plan to watch only Boston, it'll be $90 for the season.
