Took me awhile to get this week going...still feeling the gut shot of loosing Will for the OU game and likely the Bowl game...but wouldn't be surprised if he played that game..

So this is not going to be the usual long winded diatribe this week..

What's there to play for you ask? He could still hit 40 TD passes..there is a possibility that at least one WR (Sills) will not have his 1000 yard season banked yet and I think Will would like to get him an even 20 TD's to slam dunk the Belitnikoff Award..and he still might have an outside shot at the Davey O'Brien.

What I saw last week unfortunately was a lot of what we have seen all year...the front 3 were manhandled by a bigger and stronger OL of Texas..it set the tone all day...if Texas had a QB worth a shit they should have put up 50 on Wv...

What happened to the Offensive line since like week 5? Just has been in a downward trend all year...especially on the right side of the line...just terrible....they are so slow off the ball..alarming really...kind of noticed it a little bit in TT game but last Saturday...WOW.

Time to be a little critical of the offensive game plan...I must be getting like REALLY old because I really had no idea just how much Will does back there that he shouldn't..wasn't until Chugs came in that it was glaring..

The Wr routes are odd...there really are no dig routes or choice routes in this offense and I guess there really can't be because there is no motion or very little in pre-snap...who exactly is QB to get a read on defense if the other team doesn't show its hand?...IMHO a fatal flaw in this design....

Why is there no legitimate screen game in this offense? What happened to the Jet Sweep or any kind of toss play in this offense...nothing attacks the C gaps...like at all?

Other observations..

Why Didn't the staff just turn Chug's loose? If this IS a vertical designed offense then let him run it...its an offense where the pass sets up the run...no time to reverse course! At least go down shooting bullets!

I really like the way Chugs throws the ball inside of 20 yards..tight crisp throws...just needs to be careful he doesn't get people killed in those windows..

I've said it for weeks... #4 should be the starting tailback...BTW didn't he use to catch passes out of the backfield?...

Going to miss watching #8 play football...not sure if BBW remembers the first time he hit the field in a Wv uniform I thought the kid was going to be the next great one...I think I was right...he is going to be a better pro than a College player...hope ends up in a Black and Gold Uniform!

David Long is that player now...what a nose for the football....kids so smart...

#44 for Texas should be suspended from his football team...for the rest of the year...that shot was intentional...kids laughing all the way to the locker room...

And now here's crazy for you........I think Wv can upset OU this weekend and to me thats not a reach... Why? With a If Iowa State a 28 1/2 point underdog can go in and get it done then so can Wv ...and if Baylor can scare the shit out of them ...then Wv has more than a good chance...OU seems to let what looks like a walkover eat them up...and with Mayfield benched for the first half...game could be over by half time....just need to turn Chugs loose!!

Happy Thanksgiving to you Boys! Let's celebrate with an UPSET IN NORMAN!

I’ve said it many times... a great QB elevates his team. Many questioned why TCU rose to the top of the conference ahead of WVU in ‘14-15. QB play. Boykin was special. Mayfield is special.

Grier is special...

I find it difficult to call out Jake on play calling last week. He had to allow Chugs to get his feet wet before asking him to go through progressions. Unfortunately, the OL could not protect him from the various blitz packages Texas threw at them. This OL is wearing out... and not doing anything well anymore. Their rush blocking rating for the game as determined by PFF was terrible.

If not for Grier, this year’s offense would not have been special. IMO, this year’s results demonstrate his importance to the team as well as Jake’s ability to get as much as he can out of the talent level he has available. Truly amazing stuff!

Even with Mayfield not starting this weekend, I highly doubt the game will be competitive. But, you never know. There is a reason why they will play the game...

Totally agree...Grier's ability to extend plays is what separates a good QB from a GREAT QB..and he is exceptional!..appreciated him more just watching how bad the offense was without his skill back there...

I think Dana was right in press conference..( though he probably should have saved it for a behind closed doors conversation) this team is not the same with Jake calling the plays...they have become Texas A@M's identity..and that is not a compliment.(SOFT)..Dana did a great job and over the last couple of years in creating a team with grit and could run downhill...yes this team has run and gained significant yards on a stat sheet, but its not the intimidating running game they have built the last couple of years...I think that is what he has recognized a little too late in the year...but at least I THINK he is acknowledging that this is not what he wants going forward...he will need to regroup and set the tone in Spring...

Just think OU has already put a W for this weekend...they tend to play at their worst when they have that mindset...got to believe Dana is going to throw the kitchen sink at them...

I truly don’t understand how anyone would think it is Jake’s fault that the running game ain’t as good as it was the past two years.

After last season, Dana made two decisions...

1. Fire Crook
2. Hire Jake

Crook introduced power/big on big blocking schemes for Dana’s offense. Under Crook, the OL truly struggled in pass pro out of zone blocking schemes. Skyler never had time for a downfield passing attack. Isn’t it interesting to see how inaccurate Will looks at times behind pressure?

Wickline was brought to improve the OL’s pass pro. Let’s admit, it has seen a ton of improvement in this area. Crook is gone, and our power game has gone with it. This year, Jake has done amazing things with an offense who is thin up front... a bunch of underclassmen up front. This is a not a very talented team on the OL. You cannot have a great rushing team with an OL that limits what successful type plays can be made.

And, Will is not an additional running threat like Skyler. Because of the blocking woes up front, Jake has had to use #28 to be a lead blocker. Defenses can simply focus on our tailback now.

Jake was tasked to add the vertical threat to Dana’s offense... get back to more of the Air Raid roots. With Will ready to take over at QB, the timing was perfect. Will’s best asset is his arm.

This year’s offense is quite limited. And, that is not Jake’s fault...
