I'm not defending Merriweather nor saying he is better that Clemons. I'd say they are very similar in capabilities, I might give a slight edge to Clemons. What I am saying is that Merriweather is not the worst safety in the league, but we could use an upgrade. But there are plenty of TEs and Wrs he can cover. When you make these blanket absolute statements, you have no credibility in my eyes.

If we can pick up another quality FS, a team of this pick up and Merriweather could be adequate.

He didn't show me anything this year. My point is that our staff thinks he is equal or even better than Clemons. Total bs.

The espn guy who writes the redskins blog said it. The skins think he is better than all the other FA out there. I think his name is Keim.

Its a valid assumption based on the fact that we resigned Merriweather and apparently didnt even seriously look into Clemons.

By the way Im totally fine with the Merriweather resigning. Its apparent we are going with the idea that if your pass rush is good enough, its ok for your secondary to be sketch, IM starting to think our top pick is going to be ILB Borland unless Mosley is some how there at 34. So the real question is, does Merriweather play FS or SS and who mans the other spot.

We don't know why Clemons is not here (yet). It could be he doesn't want to be here or that his asking price is ridiculously high. If we sign Clark, he will play FS and Merriweather will be SS. If not, we will be drafting a S, but probably not one that can start day 1. If thomas is ready, he will be SS and Merriweather will be FS. I personally think the Merriweather is a better SS than FS. He doesn't have the range or instincts to go sideline to sideline. He does have the instincts to step up and pop someone.

walterfootball.com latest mock gave us S Ward and Borland in the 3rd round. Ward was taken over Tuitt. Filo and Benjamin were 1st round picks.

How can they give us both ward and borland in the 3rd, we only have one pick in the 3rd? Ward has potential, but he shouldn't be starting day 1 (of course, neither should have Rambo).

I still maintain that we may try and trade up to land either Mosely, Clinton-Dix, or Pryor in R1.

Ward is a reach at 34. If we want him, then trade back, pick up another 3rd or 4th and take him in the mid to late second round. Borland is probably ok in the 3rd.

I agree we should target Mosely. Dix and Pryor look like top 20 picks so the cost would be too much. The latest mocks from CBS and Walter have Mosely going to the Broncos at #31. Shouldnt cost much to move up three to five picks. Plus first round picks get 5 yr deals instead of 4 years deals for 2nd rounder's.

It is amazing to me how this guy is dropping. Once thought of a top 10 draft pick.

Yeah, he may not drop. This is all speculation. But I agree, if he is there after the 24th pick, trade up to get him. That 5 year deal is huge for 1st round picks.

Ward is not a reach at #34. Kiper and Mcshay had him late first early 2nd. He is the 3rd best S in the draft hands down. Ward was also taken over Shaizer in the walter mock. Allen Robinson from Penn st. is dropping. Once thought as a late first early 2nd. Now late 2nd to early 3rd. Interesting.

I'm not so sure he was completely healthy or confident last year. It didn't help we had no pass rush. We've seen some good things from him in this defense. Id like to think optimistically.

I don't have an issue with the re-signing of Brandon Meriweather, especially for the price. He was signed for only $1 million. I really like his presence at the strong safety position. I believe our main issues were at FS. Rambo and Doughty were not getting it done. A healthy Meriweather was bringing the pain to ball-carriers.....and of course, himself, when he busted Eddie Lacy. I like when he decided to start hitting low and he was busting people by doing that. I just think he needs to just stay healthy and continue to pay attention to the way he hits.

You would think given his track record & low salary that he will approach things differently this season. Otherwise - he risks quite a bit including longer suspensions & the possibility of either no future or no more decent paydays in the NFL.

BM is one hit away from serious injury or suspension by the NFL. We can't count on that which is why we must address safety once again in this years draft.

We have been trying to address safety every year for the last six years. We brought in THREE young players at the position last year in Gumbs, Thomas and Rambo. At some point you have to see what you have before starting over yet again. As far as Im concerned, drafting a safety high should be off the table unless a spot on day one starter is sitting there. Otherwise we just keep chasing our tail at the position. Merriweather might only be a one year solution, but we seriously cant keep throwing resources at the position when we also have other needs. We are going to have to gamble some where this year.
