I forget which media person mentioned it, but Cousins is still looking over his shoulder and its is affecting his play. Until he doesnt have a reasons to be looking over his shoulder, I think we will continue to see reserved play from Cousins.

If this is accurate then Cousins needs to get over this ASAP. This is the equivalent of a team playing not to lose. Cousins has been given the entire season (barring injury) to prove himself. There has been absolutely no indication all season from Gruden (the only one who matters) that he would ever pull Cousins & name another starting QB.

Time for these guys to put on their big boy pants & act like pros. That includes Gruden if he is the reason for taking less chances in an effort to not make Cousins look bad. Now - if the reason for all of this is to reduce turnovers & help the team win that is another matter & a valid reason.

The goal for this team is for the Redskins to consistently win (whether this season or a few years from now) - not to make Cousins, RG3 or any other QB look good. If anyone on this team is not onboard with this they likely won't be around for long.

Agree like DG Fan in reply to JonBlaze's post. If the old mentality were still in existence we probably would have seen RG3 play at some time this season (or at least be dressed & the backup during most games). There have been plenty of times during this season where an excuse would have existed to replace the QB. To the Redskins & Gruden's credit they sat tight.

Some folks don't want to believe it, but there is a new culture for this team primarily due to the presence of SM. It is sometimes hard to stomach given some of the issues this season, but again that is part of rebuilding & also a result of the insane amt of injuries for the Redskins. I see no evidence of Snyder meddling at this pt & this all seems to be generated by rumors from the media & some whining fans. Overall - things certainly are not great, but they appear to be heading in the rt direction long term.

I am thinking Cousins went up to Rick Walker and said "Doc, I am having a hard time because I keep looking over my shoulder to see if Griffin is entering the game."

It's definitely a strong take from Doc.

I can see an element of playing for his job being involved in not being overly aggressive with taking shots down the field. But I don't see it an issue of Griffin as much as an issue about how Cousins plays himself. Staff is looking for consistency, growth and development past multi INT games.

But I can also easily see it as the coaching staff trying to rein in the gunslinger issues and the pressing which led to mistakes in the past for him.

My primary reason for the post was someone saying in a previous post "if this is true ...." I don't think Doc knows it is true it is what he suspects. Is there some truth to it, probably. My take on the game against NE was without "most" of the drops it would have been a good game not only for Cousins but for the offense as a whole. I also realize there are at least two schools of thought regarding Cousins. Some think he is just a backup and some (including me) think lets see if the kid can grow. I don't think we have many options unless McCloughan has an ace up his sleeve.

Most know I love X's and O's but it seems we are now picking on a couple of plays a game. That is fine, that is part of being a fan but if you expect anyone to be 100% every game and I mean at any position forget it. That is just not reality. Secondly we don't always know what the player is assigned to do. You can watch my nephew play against the run and he seems blocked, but it is by design in many cases. He asked to stalemate the tackle and let the LBs and safeties come up and make the tackle. If you didn't know that you would think "damn, he is blocked on every play."

Good pts. In terms of whether this (or other related things are true) - reminds me of the whole deal w/ Desean Jackson's quotes the other day. If you read the entire quote & consider the context (as provided by the link from Cali) you would see that they were relatively harmless & kind of made sense. However - taken out of context & selectively edited - they made Jackson out to be the worst NFL teammate possible. A lot of irresponsible mediots ran with this. What a joke.
