Some insight to DHall and the safety position. Gotta love seeing this 'team first' attitude.

For Redskins’ young linemen, ‘it’s all about the tool box’ — www.washingtonpost.com — Readability

Excerpt

The Redskins’ offensive line has played with consistency despite inexperience and injury. The young linemen say position coach Bill Callahan prepared them for every scenario.

“It’s all about the tool box,” rookie guard Brandon Scherff said. His linemates agree, saying that the “tools” – a wide range of counter moves designed to thwart whatever defensive linemen will try to throw at them – taught by Callahan and assistant Shane Day are the reason they have done so well in pass protection.

“As an offensive lineman, a lot of people don’t think you can have a lot of tools,” right tackle Morgan Moses said. “It’s similar to a defensive lineman having a spin-move, a club, a rip, things like that. But it’s having different sets in your tool box, whether it’s a jump set, B set, C set, D set, playing long, with different counters with your hands; just having that in your arsenal. You’d never know as an offensive lineman that there was so many.”

How many tools has Callahan given him? “I can’t even count them,” Moses said, adding he had never heard of so many techniques for fending off defenders.

Don't get me wrong I liked this draft but drafting Williams still would have made more sense for the future. Apparently SM had no confidence in Moses or Long at the time of the draft. These guys are playing outstanding. With the almost certain release of Hatcher, Williams would of been there to replace him. I know its water under the bridge but did the Paea signing put a damper on drafting Williams?

As it turns out we are loaded at Guard if you factor in Lauvo and Kojo. The only weak link is Center but if Dela Puante works out that would be huge.

Interesting. The only thing you can really say for sure at this point is...the book on Kirk is still being written and time will tell the story

How are you coming to the assumption that Scot drafted Scherff over Williams because he had no confidence in Moses or Long?

It's well documented and discussed the reasons for the pick and it certainly was never that. Part of it was injury concern and durability for Williams as well as how Scot had his big board set up.

Not to mention the Oline HAD to be addressed.

Moses was injured and there was no guarantee he would even be ready to play the start of the season much less be impactful so quickly. Long had yet to prove he could hang as a starter and indeed was bumped by Moses and Scherff in TC.

b/c if he had confidence in Long/Moses why would he draft a OG at #5 overall? If we bypassed Scherff we still had Long, LAvou, and Kojo for the guards spots. There was never a concern that Moses wouldn't of have been ready for the season. His training camp status was up in the air.

The reason for the pick b/c Scot didn't think he had the oline talent to win. Yes the oline had to be addressed but not at #5 overall.

IMO the Paea signing at the time was done b/c he didn't think Williams would be there at #5. Williams was projected to go #1 overall if you remember.

You are neglecting the order of Scots board. Fowler, Cooper, Scherff.

True. Tell me this, how was Fowler who is a Olb at the top of the board when at the time we had Galette under contract. Or was that after. I'm not sure. So are you saying the paea and pot roast signing had nothing to do with the draft?

im not trying to start problems. Im just saying our future would have been better if we took Williams at #5. Lets hope Scherff develops into a pro bowl OG.
