Williams has stepped up big time when Richardson was out. You don't judge a dlineman just by sacks. I never said mistake. I said our future could have been better. If you don't want to admit that Scherff got abused at tackle in training camp that's fine. He is a guard and hopefully he is a great guard for us. But you have to think that the SM gave up on Long and Moses by selecting Sherff.

You would have to think that SM intentions at draft time was to start Scherff at RT.

By hinting that "Our future could have been better" you are basically saying.. .we made a mistake in taking Scherff over Williams. As much as people POUND the drum that you draft the best player available on your board, why is it so hard to believe that when the pick came, Scherff WAS the best player available on SMs board?? Sure would we have loved to have been able to trade down a spot or two and get Scherff?? OF course. And Im sure the real reason SM waited until 30 seconds to put the pick in, is because he was waiting to see if the Jets, or some one else called to try and move up for Williams. Now maybe some one did call, but its not worth the trade down if you run the risk of losing the guy you actually wanted. We made the correct pick for now AND the future.

SM admitted that there was no phone calls after Cooper and Fowler were taken. I was thinking that Hatcher was going to get released next year so this was the perfect opportunity to replace him. A lot of fans felt the same way. I am a big fan of Moses. Not b/c he is doing well this year but b/c I knew he was going to be our RT of the future. I didn't give up on him like others did. So when we took a OT(at the time) over the DE replacement for Hatcher is was only natural that I blew a gasket.

I'm glad your faith in Moses being the future is panning out. I'd also like to point out that it can be a crapshoot with development. Note Strong, another draft pick you were high on. Just saying.

I will give Moses his props.. He has done well as a RT. But you also have to admit, if he showed versatility as Scherff has ( the ability to play more than just OT, then you are right there might not have been a need for Scherff. Accept he was the best player available when we picked. If Nothing else, Bud Dupree shows that teams can find good young D-Line in just about every draft. So you dont pass on a stud o-lineman who can start now, to draft a D-lineman who at best was going to be a replacement for a guy likely to get released next year..... maybe.

Shark, Dupree is an 3-4OLb not a 3-4 DE. How is Scherff versatile when he got beat out at OT? How is Scherff a stud o-lineman when he cant play NFL OT in his rookie year? That is your opinion that he was the BPA. I can find a lot of Skins fans and NFL fans that would disagree with you.

As far as Strong goes. He has the physical tools. I didn't know he was a headcase. Cant call Strong a bust by no means. It's still too early.

Right. SM will be judged on this pick from years to come. It didn't make you nervous that he couldn't hold down the RT job and was moved to guard? If Paea wasn't signed does he still make that pick? It's just fun to think about.

I don't have expectations that Scot will nail every draft pick. No one does.

Or that this pick will dictate any long term narrative on Scot as a GM.

That said, I've got no problem with the Scherff pick.

I don't have a problem with him either. But you would have to think that the NFL will judge him by the pick. especially if Williams has a great career. NO GM nails every pick. Sorry for getting off target guys. But I just had to put that stuff out there. I believe that there was no confidence in Moses and that was one of the many factors that lead to the Sherfff pick. Im so happy that Moses is dominating now.

It didnt make me nervous at all. Because I fully believe that Scherff was moved to Guard not because he couldnt play OT, but because putting him at guard and putting Moses at RT gave us a better line. Because we know Moses cant really play RG, and we also know he is a better lineman than Long as is Scherff. So it was either move Scherff to RG, or leave the more talented player between Long and Moses sitting on the bench.

Now I do think, if Long had shown to be a better lineman than Moses, Scherff would have remained at RT.

Dean, the only one that is going to fret over this pick for years to come is you. We got a top notch offensive lineman. The vast majority of us (and this includes me) that was questioning the pick at the time have long since moved past it with minimal regrets. Remember, 5 teams passed on Williams although he was projected to be the top pick by some of the so called experts.

Long is not an OT. Scherff got embarrassed at OT in training camp that was why he was moved to RG and pushed Long to the bench. Then Moses became our RT out of default. So the real competition was Scherff vs Long at OG. There was no way that SM was going to bench his #5 overall pick. That is what exactly happened. Why are you comparing Long and Moses? Two different positions.

Top notch jy19? Don't you think that is still yet to be determined?

In that draft he was the best OL. That means top notch. I also beleive ther will be a few PBs in his future. Can't say that about Williams based on his play so far.

Because as I have stated MULTIPLE times, you put your best players on the field. If Long struggled at RG, and Scherff and Moses were even at RT... do you think it would be smarter to keep Scherff at RT in order to PROVE you drafted the right guy even if it ultimately hurts the team?? Or do you take the guy who DOES have the versatility to move inside and slip him inside and make your line that much better?? And hell yes, if Long were actually the better player, and we started Scherff based on his draft position, both coach and GM would need to be fired. Havent we had enough of the whole.. you got to play him because of where we drafted him bullshit around here??

Hasn't panned out yet but who knows down the road. Word is he simply didn't know what he was doing from analyst Broaddus in Dallas. Oh, and he LOVES Trey...
