I was wondering if there would be scouting department moves. Alonzo Highsmith is a product from the U (Miami) who has proven that talent comes from everywhere, not just mainstreamed schools. It stands to reason that his talents would go beyond the playing field, great hire if it's possible.

Alonzo Highsmith is a product from the neighborhoods in south Florida and was a key building block of those vaunted championship teams at the U (Miami). He played for several NFL teams and would have been the top pick in that draft had it not been for knee issues sustained while at the U. There was a code among players there that others had to measure up to in order to become a hurricane player. This meant that recruits had to be real ballers and owned a certain toughness about them in order to fit in. I suspect that it is that standard that's serving him welll as a scout. Something that is definitely needed here.

BTW: there are a bunch of U guys that had great careers in the NFL...among them our own S. Moss. I was a big fan of those guys from the U.

well we could sit here , keep the same scouting staff and hope they get it right .

why look at a guy like highsmith who has a good reputation and say he could be a good hire if we pull it off ? that is dumb . we should keep guys we KNOW arent getting it done .

we should just be happy and keep the same staff because we are to afraid to look at a guys reputation and body of work and determine he might be better then what we have

now if you want a written in stone guarantee that a scout we hire will draft his ass off then you are in for a long wait

the team has a drafting issue . scouts check into players and rate them . if you arent getting good players then you start with who is looking at them , see what their grades are , and if they dont jive then you look at new people

this is just wrong. Our scouting department sucks. Why not upgrade? Scot really wants him

Its a good move simply because we are bringing in another professional football executive that has learned the business from one of the best franchises in the league. Not sure how this is not so obvious.

If Scotty wants Highsmith and is good with him, that's good with me too. If you want another opinion, call in to Vinny Cerrato's daily radio show and ask him what he thinks. He's on now. Or you can e-mail him here: [email protected]

The part about being the 2010 Scout of the Year was a tip off. Look you are right, we won't know for sure for years if we do hire this guy. But I'm not sure why you are jumping on posters for being excited about the possibility of hiring The Scout of the Year. Considering how many scouts there are out there in the NFL that's a pretty good piece of hardware.
