I can give you 3,023 reasons... I honestly don't think Raines is SO much better...

the main stats for a SB king is OBP, SBs, SB% IMO

Raines Kills Brock in OBP and SB%, in fact Raines Career OBP is the same as Brocks career Best...

Look at the people around Raines in steals.

Ricky = in the hall 3,000 hits
Brock = in the hall 3,000 hits
Hamilton = in the hall, veteran vote, but one of the best there ever was
Cobb = in the hall well over 3,000 hits
Coleman = will never get in
Latham = will never get in
Collins = in the hall 3,000 hits
Carey = in the hall, veteran's vote but lead the league in steals 10 times
Wagner = in the hall 3,000 hits

There's the other 9 of the 10 in steals all time. You are going to have to do something more than lead the league in steals four times and win 1 batting title to get into the hall... He will get in I believe at some point, he's been on around 50% of the ballots for a few years now but he's not a slam dunk the way some believe he should be. He was never the best at anything, even when he was leading the NL in steals Rickey was better...

Yea... I know you are right, but that is overwhelming BS... and i believe this will change now that people look at sabremetrics too.... Speed was just never a category that anyone cared about... But it is part of the game... And when players do other things besides just speed, they should get in...

I find it funny that the 3 major stats for HOF is the triple crown stats(HR,RBI, BA)... 2 of those are power numbers, so basically if you are not a HR hitter, it will be very difficult for you to make the HOF... At least if you don't hit any milestone numbers(which would only be hits if you are not a power bat)

Only problem for Raines is that he is on my team and ever player gets downgraded once I select him.

I'm not sure HR's, RBI's & AVG are the three main stats for the hall, Home Runs absolutely, if you get 500 you are in unless you got caught on the juice then maybe not. I'm not sure BA gets you in unless it's crazy high and usually thats something kinda tied to 3,000. RBI's won't get you in unless they are a crazy number.

There are a few stats that are trigger points no doubt

500 Home Runs
3,000 Hits
300 Wins

Other than those three other things will be looked at to get you in, but your right steals has never really been looked at as a main stat to get a player in, steals are great but you need something else to go along with them, Raines didn't get to 3,000, he wasn't a player who lead his team to multiple Championships, he wasn't a great fielder. He was a good hitter who was very good at stealing bases... That alone is not enough unless he would have been putting up a hand full of 100 steal seasons, his only World Series appearance he hit .214 with 1 caught stealing at age 36. There's just no other WOW stats with him...

and this is why i hate comparing players of position... What hurts Raines is he is also an OF, and the comparison between other OFs are not as extreme...

I think there are different type of hitters, the power hitters and the non power hitter... And i hate the fact that he doesn't make it because he is compared to power hitters...

Clearly is OPS, HRs and RBIs will not be great, but that was not his game...

tim raines was a shoe in after 10 years, then like Dale Murphy and many others he crashed. HOF is a lot about longevity. There are guys that should be in that gave up their prime years to serve in WW2 that should go in before raines. But if Raines gets in then you have to look at someone like Al Oliver who beat raines in every category except SB's/
