Ole Miss? Please. They've beaten like one ranked team in the last 40 years, and now they're in the preseason poll every year.

Other than that, I don't have any idea about Marshall. Seems like as good a list as any.

I hope Iowa football never gets a picture on that. Every time they have during the BCS Era, they ended up losing their next game. I believe (not totally sure) the last time was the year they won the Orange Bowl, they made the cover and lost 2 straight.

Happens every year. Go 4-0 playing a piss poor OOC, win 2 or 3 games from there out.

This is the first time they've been ranked in the preseason poll since 2009. And that was the only time in the last decade they've been ranked prior to this season. They certainly aren't in it every year. And they beat 2 ranked teams last year, including one on the road. 4 of their 5 losses last year were to Bama, Auburn, Texas A&M and Missouri. No shame in that as they were all top 20 teams and 3 of them in the top 10. And they return a bunch of talent from last year. IMO they are a 4 loss team in the regular season, which should put them around 20th or so. I have no problem with their ranking.

The bigger question is Stanford in the top 10? :L

Do they know anything about Pac12 football?

Had a home and home with Fresno State and Texas within the last 5 years. Also played BYU at home and play Boise on a neutral this year. Wouldn't say that's "piss poor" by any stretch. And again they've been ranked one time in the last decade in the preseason.

Doubt it. Conference is a "grinder". Most preseason PAC polls just "mirror" last year, which I spose is fine. SI sees what I see this year I guess. Vote for Riley more than anything. Beavs do have to travel North to HuskieLand with a date by the pond. I see that game as OSUs hardest travel date. Not that USC, Stanford OR Wazzou on the road will be easy, just easier than playing your Huskies on the road in my OP Whiz.

I'm still confused why people who follow the Pac 12 suddenly think Stanford is going to stop Stanfording. They've still got like 6 or 7 established guys on defense. Their quarterback isn't going to be worse. They always find a running back. Their receivers are back and presumably better. Why will they be bad? Do you really think they'll struggle on the offensive line?

Ole Miss returns a pretty solid team. Even if they lose 3-4 games all year an 18 ranking is pretty accurate.

Besides the questions on specific units and positions, it's their schedule

2014 Stanford Cardinal Football Schedule
All of these on the road: UW, ND, ASU, Oregon, Cal, UCLA

College is far more about difficulty of road schedules than almost anything else. 6 road games and all but 1 have some substantial challenge to them? Good luck finding 9 wins there, more or less being top 10.

Maybe it was Miss State that was unnecessarily ranked for a stretch more recently
