Except wasted time and effort on a guy who doesn't deserve it. This would also take away valuable coaching time from the young guys who do deserve it. It's a lose-lose situation, actually.

Oh, and it's also fucking retarded. Just stop.

It would be classic Bengals, though. Instead of drafting or signing a proper LB we try and convert a fucking scrub to be one. It would make perfect sense.

If they didn't draft at least one LB who can cover somebody that's a major problem. Assuming that they do, I have no issue with them seeing what Mays can do at LB. Coaches are paid to coach. If he shows promise then keep him. If not then sayonara. Like I said they don't have any investment in Mays. If they don't feel that he can contribute he'll be cut. pretty simple.

Hey, do we still own Mike Nugent? Lets move him to quarterback, I mean, really, how hard can it be?

Nah.... Though I do think he could probably be moved to punter. Both positions kick the ball so it shouldn't be too difficult. That way, we won't have to re-sign Huber who will probably get a nice deal if he keeps improving.

Well, don't forget the greatest move ever, when Adam Sandler went from Waterboy to linebacker.

Clements played a lot of safety this year.

Yeah he did and when he did, he sucked at it. Sucked enough that they re-signed the guy Crocker they let go at the end of last season because he wasn't very good. And sucked enough that when he was replaced by said safety, the defense improved immensely.

Pretty much how a few of us projected it would go.

Its funny some how people have scoffed at the notion of moving Taylor Mays from saftey to linebacker when those very same people are actually on record as stating that they would welcome the Bengals selecting another linebacker convert in the 1st Round in Alec Ogletree. That's right Alec Ogletree started his career for the Bulldogs as a safety and was actually ranked as the 4th safety nationally, 29th overall, in ESPN.com Top 150. Ogletree lacks the skill to play coverage as a safety but has found a home at the linebacker position and I feel the same would happen if the Bengals were to move Mays where his athleticism would allow him to become the play-maker this defense sorely needs.

I don't scoff at the notion to move Taylor Mays. He's a horrible safety - Move him or cut him. I just don't have much faith that he'll be a good linebacker - He seems to have poor instincts on the field.

As for Ogletree -- I know next to nothing about him. But I think its much more common for college players to switch positions and be successful than it is for pros. Just a guess.

I have no issues allowing Mays to compete against LB's in minicamp or training camp or whatever it may be, but not at the expense of not drafting or signing a FA LB just because we wanted to try Mays at LB, like we did with Clements.

agree. If it were up to me the Bengals would take 2 LBers in the first four rounds...and 2 guys athletic enough to be a factor in pass coverage. Gimme Khasheem Greene in the 2nd and Kiko Alonso in the 4th.

I'm seeing mocks with Green in the top 20 picks.

We're a ways off...but Greene is small (I think 235) and I don't think he's going to be off the charts at the combine. He's just a damn good football player. I betcha he gets passed over for guys with more 'upside'. I think he'll be there at 2a. I'd say 50/50 at this point that he's at 2b.
