Saw this on the interwebs. Pretty ridiculous when you think about it. But this guy is that good.

Richard Sherman had the lowest target percentage per snap of any NFL cornerback, and he still led the league in picks. That's stunning.

we shall find out the night before the Super Bowl, when the NFL has their award show on FOX, live from Radio City Music Hall in New York (the city hosting the Super Bowl also hosts the NFL award show)

Yah, and he dropped a couple that he should have caught too. Plus that last game in Seattle where Earl Thomas, Lane, and Sherman all went for that tipped ball at the same time should have been a picked ball too.

Its a good thing he plays at a high level though because so many people hate his brashness he has to back it up or he'll get lambasted in the media.

:agree:
And being a huge fan of his, i'm glad he does. Put all that ''Revis is the best Corner in the game'' shit to rest. That throne belongs to Sherman.

Yeah, there can be no doubt who the top corner of the league was this year and he sure has a valid argument for DPOY. So does Earl Thomas, but I'd probably give it to Sherm.

1. J.J. Watt, Houston Texans: Voters typically don't reward players on awful teams, with Seattle's Cortez Kennedy being an exception in 1992. (Kennedy won despite his Seahawks team going 2-14.)

Watt's sack numbers aren't as flashy as last year, but he actually has more quarterback hits than he did one year ago at this time. He has three forced fumbles and leads the league in tackles for loss. Watt also passes the eye test. He's the most dominant defensive player in football. Isn't that what this award is about?

2. Robert Quinn, St. Louis Rams: Quinn is another player that I won't punish for being on a losing team. He's the best pure pass rusher in the league and strong against the run. The award should be about the best defensive player, not the most passable defensive player with a cool narrative.

3. Luke Kuechly, Carolina Panthers: He's probably the favorite to win the award because he's a top-tier player, and the leader of one of the best defenses in football. He's great in run support and pass defense. It would be hard to argue with Kuechly as the pick.

4. Robert Mathis, Indianapolis Colts: He has a career-high 15.5 sacks, with many of them game-winning plays. His Week 7 strip-sack of Peyton Manning comes to mind. So does his sack fumble on Ryan Fitzpatrick that just might have saved the AFC South for the Colts last week.

5. Richard Sherman, Seattle Seahawks: He's not having an all-time "shutdown cornerback" season, but he usually erases his competition each week. That changes the way Pete Carroll can construct the rest of his defense.

6. Earl Thomas, Seattle Seahawks: I'm not smart enough to understand Thomas' greatness. That's probably true of anyone who doesn't break down Thomas on All-22 footage each week. He's a player who doesn't show up in the stat sheet a ton, although his solo tackle numbers will soar past his career highs.

This week's matchup against San Francisco could be a time for Thomas to shine with a lot of threats for the 49ers in the middle of the field. (Most of the ATL crew picked the 49ers to win.)

Thomas' closing speed and awareness are exceptional. Like Bob Sanders in 2008, Thomas has a chance to become a voter favorite.

Honorable mention: Patrick Peterson, Justin Houston, Ndamukong Suh, Gerald McCoy, Muhammad Wilkerson and Vontaze Burfict.

The latest "Around The League Podcast" previewed every Week 14 game and forked another team.

He is the top CB in the league. Patrick Peterson is probably in the conversation in terms of talent but Seattle also has the best safety in the league

The post above me is pretty spot on

I have Quinn over Watt but other than that, this is how I see it.

Well I just saw this was after week 14 but it still illustrates the way I see things. I think Kuechly wins it but Quinn could very well end up winning it. Watt is deserving of the award as well but I can't see him winning it due to his teams record.

Sherman had 4 picks in the last 3 or 4 games I think. So that could of changed this particular writers view?

It could. He's a great corner. I don't think he wins DPOY but he is one of the best defensive players in the league.

Honestly I hope he doesn't win it. He love to create chips on his shoulder and have things to prove others wrong. Not naming him DPOY will just give him more fuel for next season.

If I had a pick in this I would give it to Watt..next to Quinn ,then to Kuechly. Watt played his best on a shit team....I just don't see he gets awarded because of that.

I agree. That's why I think one of the other two win it.

I can't argue with that. Honestly, Watt is about as dominant a player as I have seen in many years. If he keeps it up, he will be in conversations with guys like LT, Reggie White, etc. This year I'm on the fence with him and Quinn. Either would be a great choice. I like what Robert Mathis has done a lot, too. He was always considered second fiddle in Indy and this year proved that he was every bit as good as Freeney, if not better.

As for Sherman, I like what he does a lot covering and tackling but I'm not a fan of giving the award to corners and I don't think he is more important than the other guys mentioned. It is close this year, though. Wouldn't be surprised if any one of these guys win. Doesn't seem to be a clear cut favorite among voters out there.

I don't know. Him and Thomas both had awesome years but great pass rushers are just so valuable. Sherman can cover one guy, but if someone like Watt can just end the play before it has a chance of starting.

Unfortunately for Corners they seem to have to do more to get credit for the season that they have unless you play for a team in the New York market. My guess is Sherman does not win it this year and either Watt or Quinn take it as they do have the more sexy stat of sacks that voters seem to love. Plus my guess is Sherman's personality will turn some voters off...that doesn't make it fair but that does happen.
