Shefter saying RG3 will not play in preseason

If he doesn't play. He needs the reps if he's going to start first game. Practice isn't the same as a game. The team also needs to get used to his speed in game time. Now, I don't see him playing much, maybe a quarter game 2 and a quarter game 3.

I could see him playing the first quarter of the second to last preseason game to get some real reps and probably a good hit laid on him. That first one is the toughest. Get it out of the way with a couple of weeks to heal.

he's been cleared to practice....nothing about playing in a game.

my opinion is play him when he is cleared to play games not much but dont have him go in cold turkey vs the eagles

i know AP was held out but running the ball isnt the same as playing qb

Its not even close. The QB has to establish rhythm with his receivers and backs. Also, Peterson was a 6 year vet. RG3 is in his second year.

You really think playing a few series in a preseason game is going to make that much of a difference? I don't. If nothing else - in addition to whatever they do in practice - he will develop some of this in the beginning of the Eagles game.

Actually, I do. Game speed is completely different than practice speed. Everything is magnified when live ammo is coming at ya....

i wouldnt want him taking hits cold turkey vs the eagles . so yes i feel it does make a difference

In all likelihood he won't take big hits in the preseason game - so how is that any help? Also - even if he does that just means that much more risk. In any case - it might help a little, but it is really much ado about nothing.

I can see not playing him during pre season cause you don't want him re injuring himself; the Redskins are being extra cautious. But I know others will probably have a different point of view on this cause to some RG3 needs to develop a rhythm again with his receivers..so I can see why some people would want RG3 to play a game or two in pre season, but you definitely don't want RG3 getting hurt in a meaningless pre season game that doesn't count.

Huge mistake. RG3 should take a few snaps each game. They should be quick and in rhythm or just straight hand offs.

Week one we should lean on Morris and our running game any way. So no need to throw him out there for some rookie trying to prove he was worth the pick to take a cheap shot and take him out again. timing with WRs will come. If he plays more than a series or two the entire preseason I will be shocked. August is the Kirk Cousins show... period.

well i wouldnt put him out there with those kinds of players

keep him in there with starters (not very long ) and let him get some live action

now of course he has to be 100% healthy and cleared . right now he is cleared for practice

and we can be cautious for now

Is there a distinction between being cleared for practice and being cleared to play in games? I haven't heard of one. Of course shanny may have his own clearance criteria to play in games.
