There are also a few more guys we could cut (Riddick, C Jones, T Wilson, Wiggins) to find more cap space. All those guys would be a savings of 3-4 mil each. Could also extend and restructure Staff.

Freep writer Dave Birkett gave figures for 2019 cap hits on Flowers, Amendola and J. James which came to 12.9M.

Obviously you'll have to wait on 2019 cap hits for Coleman, Zenner and new FA OG Aboushi but there should be approximately 21.8M cap space available before you deduct the (3) players above.

That 21.8M left included already deducted 2019 money for draft picks (9), IR replacement players 6M, practice squad player roster 1.7M.

Excellent article. So the Lions are rolling the dice on the next CBA being a big increase and loading up now and pushing off the hits.
