If the signing is correct, I'd still draft an Edge Rusher early.

You can never have enough edge rushers.

Sources: Lions to add DE Flowers, DB Coleman

Defensive end Trey Flowers has agreed to a five-year deal with Detroit that's expected to average between $16 million and $17 million per year, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Nickel cornerback Justin Coleman is heading to Detroit on a four-year deal worth $36 million, according to ESPN's Michael Rothstein and multiple reports. Coleman's deal would be the richest ever for a nickel cornerback.

Lions head coach Matt Patricia was New England's defensive coordinator before taking over in Detroit ahead of last season, and both Flowers and Coleman have Patriots ties.

Sources: Lions to add DE Flowers, DB Coleman

Coleman, who turns 26 on March 27, was a steal for the Seattle Seahawks after they acquired him from the Patriots for a seventh-round pick shortly before the 2017 season opener.

Coleman spent the past two seasons as Seattle's nickelback, recording 90 tackles, three interceptions and 19 passes defensed. He returned both of his interceptions for touchdowns in 2017, and he had a fumble return for a touchdown last season.

According to Pro Football Reference, Coleman appeared in 59.6 percent and 67.8 percent of Seattle's defensive snaps the past two regular seasons and did not miss a game.

This is a damn good haul in at least it helps to solidify 4 positions of need. imo.

I have very little knowledge regarding Coleman but 9M a year for a nickel CB seems awfully high, so I will assume Coleman is the new CB2.

And another compensatory 3rd-round pick to the Patriots....

I get the third round compensation why wouldn't the pats resign him?
They are bar none the best run team in the NFL and didn't think he was worth 17 million a year.
Same thing with other teams that are perennially good teams.
Ravens don't give Wagner an extension because he wasn't worth it.
Packers don't resign Lang. Lions bite on both and they are terrible under performers for us.

Not saying Flowers will be the same but isn't it funny how great teams let players leave, teams who are perennially bad like the Lions and Redskins, give players these massive contracts. Teams like the Ravens, Pats and Packers continue to dominate while teams like the Lions and Redskins continue to flounder.

That being said, I like that they are signing good players to the defense and trying to win at least. But it will be interesting to see if Flowers can translate to more team W's.

Woohoo!!!!!

JJ and Flowers and Coleman. Just need at least one of the LBs. Barr hopefully but any of them would be good. @Rollingthndr may get his wish of a WR in the first round if that happens.

Also LOL at Shefter calling us the Detroit Patriots.

It's not the position that is super important. It's just this dude has the upside to become one of the truly elite talents.
I would take Bosa, Q. Williams, J. Allen all over him if they were available. Outside of those 3. Not sure if there is any other player with as much upside as Metcalf.
