There have been rumors at least one or two offers of second rounders for Mallett were rightfully turned down. Regardless I turn down most first rounders too. He's not on the market IMO.

Yea - because college football sucks.

You would be hard pressed to find an opponent belichick says is bad.

Shanahan is a poor coach and a mediocre offensive mind.

John Elway and Terrelle Davis made alot of money for Shanahan.

I think I would take a first rounder for him.

But I more or less agree with JDM - you have to rate a backup QB as you would a starting non-QB.

Most starters are worth a difference of a few games at most compared to your other options. Chandler Jones might have swung a game or two to the Patriots compared with if they had some other available DE. Aqib Talib might have been worth as many as 3 games, but not more than that. Most of your starters are worth less than a game; if they had the best available FA safety instead of Steve Gregory, would they have lost another game? Someone else instead of Ryan Wendell or Dan Connolly?

That's what a quality backup QB means. Most of the time, he makes no difference to your record. Sometimes you lose your starter for the year; in those cases very few backups give you a chance at a SB title (cough Tom Brady) and it's mostly irrelevant who your backup is. However, sometimes, when the starting QB has to miss a half with a minor injury, it can be the difference between a win and a loss. And sometimes, when the starting QB goes out for a few weeks, a quality backup means you make the playoffs when you would have missed them.

I'd take any first rounder or a high second rounder for Mallett at this point, but lower than that and no thanks.

i agree with draw.. but i dont think it will happen...

if mc D goes.. theres still his darling tebow out there out of work.. he might go that route.. and if he does want mallett you know he would pay out the nose for him.. a first or a second would probably be given.. most of the qbs in the draft will be snacthed up quick and i dont think its that deep of a draft..

as far as hirings.. i wouldnt mind a better defensive guy.. perhaps shiano since he and BB are tight.. ? if mc D goes then we will need an offensice guy as well.. id rather have the younger shan then the older one..
