Senior Bowl: QB Glennon, OT Fisher shine
January, 22, 2013 3:55PM ET
By Todd McShay, Kevin Weidl, Steve Muench

MOBILE, Ala. -- It was a sunny, but windy and chilly morning at Ladd-Peebles Stadium for the North's second day of practice at the Senior Bowl. It felt like football weather (minus the precipitation). After using Monday to get accustomed to an NFL-style practice, the North was back out on the field to perform for the scores of scouts, front-office personnel and NFL general managers in attendance.

There were two players who stood out at Tuesday's practice, and they went head-to-head in one-on-one drills at times.

UCLA DE Datone Jones (6-4⅛, 280 pounds) jumped out because of his effort. He just kept showing up. Jones is not an elite athlete or speed guy off the edge, but he does have good quickness and knows how to turn that into power as a pass-rusher. He does it better than a lot of guys here, and he makes an offensive tackle do three things: defend the inside, protect the outside and guard against his strength. Offensive linemen can't play him to a tendency.

Jones was the only guy on Tuesday who beat CMU OT Eric Fisher (6-foot-7¼, 305 pounds) in a one-on-one drill, and he did it with an outside-in move. Fisher usually protects that pretty well, and Fisher stoned Texas' Alex Okafor on a similar move earlier in practice.

Jones was the most consistently disruptive defensive lineman on the field. He's off to a good start and his performance here is going to send us back to watch more tape of his 2012 season.

Fisher also had a good day. He's put together well, with 34-inch arms and a long frame that allows him to carry his weight well. His balance was impressive, and the matchups against Okafor and Jones were the only times he lost his balance.

He's a smooth mover, but he played with a little chip on his shoulder, especially against Jones. You sometimes worry that guys who move so well rely too much on finesse, but that wasn't the case for Fisher today.

Glennon stands out in QB group

Mike Glennon's easy throwing motion impressed scouts on Tuesday.

North Carolina State's Mike Glennon had a good day and showed the strong, easy throwing motion we expected to see. This venue is made for him because he can let it rip here. Glennon was accurate on Tuesday, and had good timing and good ball placement. His decisions were good during seven-on-seven drills, with Glennon taking what the defense gave him and making underneath throws when they were needed.

He also did well anticipating and throwing the ball deep into tight windows. He was consistent and took the step he needed to. It was a big improvement from yesterday, when Glennon was adjusting to new receivers.

Syracuse's Ryan Nassib took a step back, though. There is a huge difference between him and Glennon when it comes to driving the ball down the field. Nassib needs to go off his back foot to get into his throws. Glennon doesn't need to do that. Nassib's passes died when he looked downfield.

He did well in seven-on-seven drills, but he doesn't have that big-time arm. He also over-strides and was less accurate when throwing deep.

Also, there's a misconception about Nassib's arm strength. He throws so hard -- too hard -- on the short-to-intermediate throws that it's sometimes a weakness. He lacks touch when he needs it at times underneath, but when he tries to drive the ball down the field he has to put everything into it and his ball has a tendency to hang in the air.

Miami (Ohio)'s Zac Dysert continues to be inconsistent with the ball. He can be late with throws and also misses high. He doesn't have a big-time arm. He seems overwhelmed.

Franklin leads RB group

UCLA's Johnathan Franklin (5-10, 201) was the best of the backs, mostly because he was good in pass protection. Franklin was stout and tough in one-on-ones, and put a good chip block on a defensive lineman during the team period. That period is designed to benefit the defensive players and Franklin was very good.

As a runner, he was patient, followed his blocks and showed good burst. Franklin's quickness also stood out, especially in individual drills.

Oregon RB Kenjon Barner (5-9⅛, 188) had a good Tuesday as well. He has a hard time in pass protection because of his lack of size, but Barner works hard. He needs work on his technique in pass pro.

Finally, Fresno State RB Robbie Rouse (5-5⅞, 186) had a hard time finding seams.

Mixed bag for defensive linemen

Okafor had some ups and downs at Tuesday's practice. He has nice double moves and he's able to turn quickness into power and drive offensive linemen back and get their pads high. Then there were times he was driven five yards off the ball. He always looks good against pedestrian competition, and worked Wisconsin RT Ricky Wagner during practice, but when Okafor is facing guys like Fisher and Syracuse OL Justin Pugh he's less effective. A lot of his college production came against marginal competition. We need to go back to see how he performed against certain tackles. He has a lot of positives, but he needs to be studied.

SMU DE Margus Hunt (6-8¼, 277) is just what you're looking for in a 5-technique (3-4 defensive end) in terms of size, potential and length. He's disruptive with his strength and long arms. Even when he's not making plays he can cause havoc, but you worry about the lack of suddenness in terms of his first step and change-of-direction ability. He lacked suddenness on Tuesday. He hasn't shown up a lot in the limited sample size we have so far, and we'll keep an eye on this raw prospect going forward to see what he can do.

North Carolina's Sylvester Williams was underwhelming in Tuesday's practice. Williams did well bending the edge and with his body control, and he has explosive qualities to be a good 3-technique in the NFL, but he was neutralized every time we watched him. There were times he flashed his quickness, but he was most effective with his swim moves and you can't consistently rely on those in the NFL, because offensive linemen will tenderize your ribs. He didn't make a lot of big plays on Tuesday.

We're most concerned with Purdue DT Kawann Short (6-3¼, 308). His upper-body power and short-area pop showed up in one-on-one drills, but he struggled during bag drills. Short was loose with his arms and didn't look like a guy who comes from a program that has produced numerous NFL defensive linemen.

He could also be seen taking plays off at least twice during team drills. On one play, it almost seemed as if he had a gentleman's agreement with Wagner, who steered Short inside easily. Effort was a question coming into the week for Short, and if you can't go through drills without being lazy that's a bad sign. This is the last place in the world you want to live down to that kind of reputation. When Short played hard he was effective and showed power, but the bad overshadowed the good.

North notebook

• Rutgers OLB Khaseem Greene (6-0½, 236) had the best day of the linebackers. He jumped an underneath route he shouldn't have during seven-on-sevens, but otherwise showed great instincts. Greene was always around the ball on run plays, and it was clear he was reacting more quickly than the other linebackers on the field. He also had a nice fumble recovery and matched up one-on-one with Barner in coverage.

• Marshall's Aaron Dobson (6-2⅝, 203) and Oregon State's Markus Wheaton (5-11, 183) stood out in the wide receiver group.

Dobson continues to show he can stretch the field vertically, and he's at his best on crossing and vertical routes. He beat Utah State DB Will Davis down the field and did a nice job of slowing down to make a play on an underthrown pass from Nassib. You can clearly see his ability to separate.

Wheaton has speed, but needs to get stronger and do a better job getting off press coverage. His routes were OK, but he can do a better job setting up defenders and getting leverage. You can see his extra gear, though, and he also has caught the ball well the first two days here after struggling late in the year.

• Texas WR Marquise Goodwin (5-8 7/8, 179) has good speed, but needs to continue developing his routes and needs to be more consistent with his hands.

• Elon WR Aaron Mellette runs good routes for his size (6-2½, 216), but makes too many body catches and doesn't have the burst out of breaks to consistently get separation.

• Michigan WR/QB Denard Robinson didn't get a lot of reps because of a lingering injury, but he did have a nice double move against Davis.

• Connecticut CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson is 6-0½ and 192 pounds and has good range. He's physical as a press corner and can disrupt the routes of receivers. He ran with Dobson and recovered to break up the pass. You'd like to see better ball skills, though.

• Washington CB Desmond Trufant (5-11⅛ 190) had a nice day Tuesday. He has quickness, anticipation and route recognition. Trufant is a little tight when he needs to make a full 180-degree turn and struggled to stay with Dobson, but his ability to recover and short-area quickness are good.

• Boise State CB Jamar Taylor (5-10¾, 192) didn't have as good a day. Taylor has potential, but he bit and was fooled on a double move at one point.

• FIU's John Cyprien (6-0¼, 209) stood out among the safeties, thanks in large part to his closing burst.

• North Carolina LB Kevin Reddick located the ball well and did a good job sifting through traffic by shedding blocks quickly. He's not very fluid dropping into coverage, but Reddick helped himself by performing well in pass-rush drills. He has good hands, and he's not one-dimensional in that area.

• Syracuse's Alec Lemon was an add-on to the North squad and ran some decent routes on Tuesday.

• Connecticut LB Trevardo Williams, Oregon OL Kyle Long and Ohio State DE John Simon did not practice on Tuesday, and we're trying to find out why.

• San Jose State TE Ryan Otten (6-5¼, 235) caught the ball well in seven-on-sevens and is the quickest of the North tight ends. Otten needs to be more aggressive as a blocker, though, and didn't attack the linebacker like he should have as an isolation blocker in seven-on-sevens.

These are 5 guys that are featured in this article that I really like and wouldn't mind being Niners next season:

2. Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State (5110, 183 and 4.45): During drills today Wheaton looked like he was simply on another level athletically compared to several other North team receivers. He ran routes at full speed, which allowed him to sell downfield routes and make precise cuts to create separation. Against press coverage he also showed the ability to be physical getting out of his breaks in order to create space between himself and the cornerback naturally.

6. Kawann Short, DT, Purdue (6032, 308 and 4.85): Short displayed excellent strength and initial quickness which allowed him to press the pocket with an aggressive bull rush. Impressive hand quickness and strength made him very productive against blockers today and was essentially unblockable during one-on-one drills.

10. Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford (5090, 216 and 4.60): Taylor plays as strong as he looks on “the hoof” as today he was able to consistently run through contact and proved to be difficult to tackle. He runs with good knee bend and forward lean, which allows him to initiate contact at the POA. Taylor also demonstrated soft hands and the ability to turn upfield quickly after the catch.

11. Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech (6000, 202 and 4.45): After an up-and-down practice on Monday, Patton set himself apart today as the most complete WR on the South squad. He looked explosive and polished getting in and out of his breaks, and was able to consistently get separation against all types of coverage. He used his hands well to prevent defenders from jamming him at the LOS and used subtle push-offs downfield to create space. He consistently plucked the ball away from his body and looked smooth turning upfield after the catch.

13. John Jenkins, DT, Georgia (6037, 359 and 5.30): Yesterday’s prodding by Detroit’s staff clearly got through to Jenkins today, as he was more consistently competitive throughout today’s practice. He did an excellent job of playing low and using his hands to control blockers at the LOS. He displayed the strength needed to anchor against double teams as well as bull rush blockers into the pocket on pass rushes.

Datone Jones could be creeping up to our first round pick area. He has the 5 technique size and has supposedly been MMA training since the season was over and it looks like it is translating to the Senior Bowl practice field. He had 6.5 sacks and 19 TFL this season. Possible J Smith understudy?

Whoever drafts Glennon is getting one heck of a steal. This guy has Kaep's arm strength with better accuracy. He's a pure pocket passer though and doesn't have that extra mobility (Romo, Luck, Griffin, Rodgers, Kaep, etc.) that Harbaugh looks for in QBs. He's certainly a guy I'll be rooting for on Sundays.

He didn't post the South Tuesday notes until the early hours of the morning and that's why I didn't get to it yesterday.

Tuesday's South Team Senior Bowl Practice Report, NFL Draft - DraftCountdown.com

What's with this:
South Florida DT Mike Glennon had a poor performance throughout the practice. He was taken to the ground on numerous reps in “The Pit” and disappeared during the 11-on-11s. Didn’t look like he belonged on the same field with this squad

Senior Bowl: Jenkins, Jones impress
January, 22, 2013 J8:17PM ET
By Todd McShay, Kevin Weidl, Steve Muench

MOBILE, Ala. -- Georgia DT Johnathan Jenkins has made quite an impression in the two days he has been at the Senior Bowl, beginning on Monday morning when he weighed in at 359 pounds.

On Tuesday, Jenkins won more individual battles than any other defensive lineman. At his weight, he can get into position and drive blockers into the backfield, and he did that a lot. But because he's so big, he doesn't last very long. He plays well in spurts, but stamina is an issue. He wore down as practice went on, and wasn't nearly as good in the team period as he was early in practice.

Jenkins' college teammate Cornelius Washington (6-foot-4, 246) stood out on Tuesday because of his power. Washington has an impressive build, and he's the guy you want off the bus first.

Washington doesn't have great speed or athleticism, but he does have power. He did a nice job getting into guys' pads, but he didn't show much variety in his pass-rush moves and basically bull-rushed with straight power.

He had good body lean and good leverage, and Washington's ability to create power in a short area was impressive. On a couple of plays, he launched himself and his ability to drive his legs and drop down showed up. Washington would be good in a 3-4 front.

BYU's Ezekiel Ansah (6-5¼, 274) is one of our favorite players in the 2013 class, but he was a little underwhelming on Tuesday. Ansah flashed a couple of times, and his speed in pursuit is tremendous, but his lack of experience showed up. He is clearly raw, and we're hoping to see more from him as the week progresses.

Along the offensive line, Oklahoma's Lane Johnson (6-6¼, 302) jumped out. His upper-body power and initial punch in pass protection stand out. Johnson also has good feet and balance, and he stoned just about everyone he faced. It was one of the more impressive performances we've seen so far.

Defensive linemen got into his pads on occasion, and when that happened Johnson got a little narrow and struggled to anchor. He could improve his lower-body strength, but he stopped some good players -- LSU's Lavar Edwards, Clemson's Malliciah Goodman -- throughout the day.

Jones continues to play well

Landry Jones has clearly been the best of the three South team quarterbacks at the Senior Bowl. Oklahoma QB Landry Jones (6-3⅝, 221) threw the ball well again on Tuesday. He looked the most natural of the South quarterbacks, and while his release is a little long it's also quick. Jones' film shows that he is a marksman when given time, and this is the perfect setting for showing off his arm talent. He threw with anticipation and was accurate.

Arkansas' Tyler Wilson (6-2⅛, 218) has small hands (8⅝ inches), and the ball is a little shaky out of his hand. He had good anticipation, but the ball fluttered a bit. Wilson's accuracy was inconsistent during seven-on-seven drills, but he made good decisions and drove the ball underneath.

Florida State's EJ Manuel (6-4⅜, 237) has the ball sail on him a lot. His anticipation isn't good and he has trouble fitting the ball into tight windows downfield. He was good in terms of intermediate accuracy and is the most athletic of the South quarterbacks, but his touch is a bit of a concern.

Patton separates himself

Louisiana Tech WR Quinton Patton (6-0, 202) has emerged as the top wide receiver in Mobile. Patton runs great routes, is sudden and smooth, and is physical in traffic. He has great focus, is a strong runner and transitions upfield quickly after the catch. Patton runs crisp routes and catches the ball well. He has had an excellent week so far.

Baylor WR Terrance Williams (6-0½, 201) came down a bit after a strong start on Monday. Williams has size and speed to make big plays, but he showed a little tightness on underneath routes and had some drops.

South notebook

Vance McDonald ran into more trouble than just defenders on Day 2 at the Senior Bowl.

• Rice TE Vance McDonald (6-4⅛, 262) had one of the more inconsistent performances of the week on Tuesday. McDonald had a nice over-the-shoulder catch during one-on-ones, but he dropped about half of the passes thrown his way. He often looked to turn and run before securing the ball, but while his ball skills weren't good McDonald continued to compete and didn't go in the tank.

• San Diego State CB Leon McFadden (5-9¾, 193) had a chance to show off his speed on Tuesday. McFadden has good feet and breaks well on balls in front of him, but he was exposed some by receivers with good top-end speed.

• The best defensive back of the day was California's Marc Anthony (5-11⅜, 191), who played with speed and balance, and showed patience in his reads and backpedals. Anthony had a handful of pass breakups, including one during the team period that popped into the air and into the hands of Florida State LB Vince Williams for an interception.

• Georgia's Sanders Commings (5-11⅞, 223) struggled in transition and didn't have the burst you'd like to see out of a cornerback. When Commings was on an island in one-on-one coverage he had trouble with his hips and looked tight. He played corner for the Bulldogs, but he may be better suited to be a safety. How well he runs remains a question.

• Florida RB Mike Gillislee (5-11¼, 207) looked hesitant early in the team period, but he got better as it progressed and looked good in pass protection.

• What you see from Stanford RB Stepfan Taylor (5-9, 216) is what you get. Taylor's a one-speed back who does a good job following his blocks and he didn't have any drops, but his ball skills are average and he has no real burst.

• Florida State's Williams (6-0½, 247) was explosive against the run, showing good strength and power. He was exposed some in coverage, but when he's physical at the line he can hold receivers up. He just needs to get his hands on them, because if he doesn't he will have a hard time matching up.

• Texas A&M LB Sean Porter (6-1⅜, 231) also looked good, including in coverage at times. Porter can clearly get after the quarterback off the edge, but matching up in coverage is an issue for a player his size. And even though he made some good plays Porter is not doing as well in that area as he needs to.

• Tennessee TE Mychal Rivera (6-3¼, 237) continues to impress. Rivera showed great burst after the catch, and although he had a drop he also made an unbelievable one-handed catch way outside his frame.

• Clemson RB Andre Ellington (5-9½, 197) didn't practice Tuesday after having the best practice of the three running backs on Monday.

• Alabama OL D.J. Fluker did not practice Tuesday because of calf and groin injuries.

Benjamin Allbright:

Landry is running with the 3rd team on the south... accuracy isnt there, checks down all practice.. why would anyone say he's best here?

Nassib looking good early this morning, Dysert and Glennon throwing high. #SeniorBowl

Dysert not spinning ball cleanly for 3rd day in a row. #SeniorBowl

Nassib throwing ropes today. Really seperating himself on north squad. #SeniorBowl

Nassib and Glennon now working with the "ones" Dysert over with the threes.

Second time Glennon has put the ball off a DBs hands in 1v1, folows it up w/ 2 beautiful deep balls. #SeniorBowl

Nassib just sharper than Dysert and Glennon today. #SeniorBowl

----------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Denard Robinson still a major work in progress at WR. Seems to be Thinking a lot out there. Slowing at the top of his routes. Drop issues.

---------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

RB Jonathan Franklin has great foot speed. Not sure on upside but he can be very solid in the nfl

Safety Phillip Thomas high stepping in drills making him slow to change direction

Jonathan Cyprien the opposite. Low lean and explosive. Really upping his grade

Drop count already 2 for Denard Robinson 10 minutes into practice

Love Chris harpers extension. Big catch radius

Nassib getting coached up on planting and driving

-------------------------------

Cecil Lammey:

One of my favorite players this week @seniorbowl is Kansas State WR Chris Harper-- size, crisp routes, reminds me of Anquan Boldin #NFLDraft

Pre #SeniorBowl I thought Robbie Rouse could be a Stephens-Howling type RB, but not fast enough and foot frequency needs to be quicker

I like Kenjon Barner's willingness as an inside runner, not a pile pusher but will press the hole and explodes in open space #SeniorBowl

--------------------------------

Thomas Melton:

Pugh is getting reps inside at OG today, his arm length likely means that is his NFL position. He has the athleticism to make it

Winters is still telegraphing when he's pulling with how much weight he's putting on his hand in his stance. Quessenberry doing it as well.

---------------------------------

Matt Miller:

Marquise Goodwin turning heads. Strong off the line. Great lateral quickness. Catching in traffic.

---------------------------------

Tony Pauline:

Travis Johnson/San Jose St here at Senior Bowl to play OLB. Looks good in drills.

--------------------------------

NFL Philosophy:

Denard's Robinson is still lost at WR. Still lining up wrong.

-------------------------------

Rob Rang:

For first time this week Michigan's Denard Robinson in a normal jersey rather than a yellow non-contact.

--------------------------------

Jeff Risdon:

Mike Tomlin intently watching Duke Williams and Jonathan Cyprien. #Steelers

Just changed from Dysert to Nassib in TE/RB pattern drill & the velocity & pinpoint placement differential is very evident pro Nassib

--------------------------------

Michael Schottey:

Russell Shepherd (WR LSU) is here (or on his way) believe he's replacing Ryan Swope

I like the way Poyer (CB Oregon St) moves his hips around and doesn't lose speed as he turns his head for the ball

Franklin (RB UCLA) having a rough session in pass pro and receiving drills. Kenjon Barner (RB Oregon) is excelling

The Harvard TE/FB hasn't been as stout blocking as I'd seen doesn't drop his level as a move blocker, can catch ...

--------------------------------

Michael Tanier:

Denard Robinson cannot catch. #SeniorBowl

Marquisse Goodwin from Texas looks smooth, quick, adjusts to the ball well. Running routes vs air, so grain of salt. #seniorbowl

Tackle Erik Fisher of Cen. Michigam just put Okeofor on his butt in line drills. #SeniorBowl

--------------------------------

Scott Wright:

Already impressed with Harding's Ty Powell. College DE who looks right at home with OLB's. Smooth, Athletic & Explosive. #SeniorBowl

---------------------------------

Shawn Zobel:

Ty Powell is working at his normal position of DE today. Yesterday was the first time he'd ever lined up or worked at linebacker in his life

Dysert had Dobson wide open, underthrew him a step #SeniorBowl

---------------------------------

Matt Bowen:

Watching Texas WR Marquise Goodwin work in 1-on-1. Impressed with his lateral ability & speed to get off the line vs. press-man

---------------------------------

Eric Galko:

All the QBs showing concerns today. Nassib with deep ball issues. Dysert sailing passes in 10-15 yd range. Glennon with short area placement

---------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

Chris Harper pressed by Phillip Thomas. Couldn't separate but leapt and caught it against the sideline anyway

-----------------------------------

Cecil Lammey:

Nick Kasa turning heads with his all around ability, better blocker than some expected, good (not elite) RAC ability #SeniorBowl

----------------------------------

Todd McShay:

Nassib's arm vastly overrated. Short/intermediate throws MPHs but struggles driving ball vertically on tape and see same at Senior Bowl.

----------------------------------

Thomas Melton:

Pugh is showing some nastiness today, it's early but I like him inside. Good fit in a zone scheme.

Kawann Short is the only defensive tackle that doesn't get driven off the ball by Thornton. #Purdue #Illinois #seniorbowl

--------------------------------

Matt Miller:

If only Marquise Goodwin was used like Tavon Austin.

---------------------------------

Michael Schottey:

Both Rouse and Barner spend too much time thinking as they hit the LOS...don't feel the creases naturally like Franklin does

Okafor was stonewalled several times by Fisher then switched it up with an inside move and won.

---------------------------------

Benjamin Allbright:

Its funny how much better Dysert looks with a defense in front of him. #SeniorBowl

As I get a sense for these guys, Nassib strikes me as a WCO guy. Ideal setting for him. #SeniorBowl

Texas' Goodwin having an abysmal practice. Dropping everything

Dysert cant evade the pass.rush, fumbles on the sack

Glennon w/ awkward footwork trying to move to his right. #SeniorBowl

---------------------------------

Mark Dulgerian:

UW's Trufant sticking everyone this morning. Tomlin w a few words challenging him. Trufant responded well w competitive play on Dobson

-----------------------------------

Eric Galko:

After a monster day yesterday, Eric Fisher having some problems with bull rushes. Alex Okafor and Travis Johnson had some success.

Sylvester Williams - Maybe the best first step of any DT in draft

Brandon Williams, Missouri West St DT, had an impressive morning. When he wins off the snap, plays with good leverage, drives well.

Brandon Williams/Missouri Southern has had his moments today.

Glennon ON POINT down the field today, 2-3 really nice balls along the sideline vertically. Timing on his steps/comfort with WRs better.

-----------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

Jamar Taylor impressing me. Tight coverage every rep. High awareness and anticipation

Chris Harper beats Gratz great pass by Glennon

------------------------------------

Cecil Lammey:

I like Johnathan Franklin because he runs bigger than his size, but he tries to bounce too much outside, when disciplined he's effective

Marquise Goodwin is fast and...... That's about it right now, limited as a route runner, gives away his breaks with body lean #SeniorBowl

I'm excited/impressed when Goodwin runs a 9 route or a comeback (like the way he throttles down) but concern when routes are in the middle

---------------------------------

Thomas Melton:

Alex Okafor just bull rushed Eric Fisher right into the "QB" #Texas #CentralMichigan #seniorbowl

Sylvester Williams beats Quessenberry off the ball in 1 on 1s. That's the reason for his impact plays. Has to win initially.

Datone Jones has been lining up at DE a lot but I love him inside at DT as a pass rusher. Too quick for OG's to handle. #Ucla #seniorbowl

Winters has a good anchor, can struggle with speed but he's tough to bull rush.

Okafor's bull rush too much for Eric Fisher an now Ricky Wagner. Then he beat Wagner off the edge with speed/hands. #Texas #seniorbowl

Datone Jones couldn't beat Fisher off the edge. He should try bull rushing him.

Most frustrating thing about Hunt is that he always plays too high. Drives me nuts.

Okafor just beat Fisher inside. I still like Okafor as a 4-3 LE. Not a dominant pass rusher but he can play. #Texas #seniorbowl

Pugh needs a better anchor at guard, Brandon Williams just walked him back in pass pro.

It sounds harsh, but the South roster has the only two draft able centers in mobile IMO. #seniorbowl

--------------------------------

Tony Pauline:

Okefor/Fisher battle is terrific this morning.

Will Davis/Utah State much improved this morning.

Sylvester Williams/North Carolina looking REAL good this morning

--------------------------------

Michael Schottey:

I like the second effort of Madsen (OC WVa) not an overpowering guy off the snap, showing sticky hands today though

Wagner is a bit of a enigma, overpowers guys, solid punch...slow feet though and getting beat on both outside rushes and double moves

When Wagner gets his hand on a guy, though, it's over

Wheaton (WR Oregon State) made a great catch on a ball Nassib threw to the wrong shoulder...great body control

--------------------------------

Michael Tanier:

Like yesterday, Nassib is Major Overthrow on 7 on 7s #seniorbowl

Goodwin with a drop. Enthusiasm slightly tempered #SeniorBowl

And Okeafor wins that round vs Fisher in full squad. #SeniorBowl

Glennon to Aaron Mellette of Elon up the sideline. Mellette has shown he belongs #SeniorBowl

David Quessenberry's versatility showcased by playing RT and RG

Missouri Southern NT Brandon Williams is having a week

---------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

Marquise Goodwin Texas WR so fast and full motor. Track star who could go higher than you think. Stud day

Standouts from positions I watched. Mike Glennon. Marquise Goodwin. Chris Harper. Jamar Taylor. Jon Franklin. Jon Cyprien. Aaron Mellette

Barner and Robinson returning kicks

Vikings Bill Musgrave talking to WR Aaron Mellette

Chargers rep talked to Eric Fisher and Giants rep talked to Justin Pugh after practice

---------------------------------

Thomas Melton:

Brandon Williams has been working Winters today. Beating him with speed/quicks which is concerning. Also shown a bull rush

Buchanan just dominated Quessenberry with a tight spin move. That was vicious. #Illinois #seniorbowl

-------------------------------------

Josh Norris:

Lots of check downs from Zac today. Tonight to watch coverage and qb at the same time from the bleachers

Pugh looking really good t guard next to fisher. Not passive in pass pro, aggressive first contact. Future?

---------------------------------

Joe Person:

Kenjon Barner tips then catches nice ball from Ryan Nassib. #SeniorBowl

---------------------------------

Michael Schottey:

Denard Robinson had to be physically placed in the correct spot to line up

Goodwin (WR Texas) had another good day catching the ball. Impressed with effort in blocking. Small guy but wins more battles than expected

----------------------------------

Michael Tanier:

Glennon sacked again. Haven't seen a QB sacked this often in 11 on 11s since Jets training camp #SeniorBowl

--------------------------------

Scott Wright:

NC State QB Mike Glennon looks even better today than yesterday. Top QB at Senior Bowl - hands down - in my opinion.

DL that have impressed me today are North Carolina DT Sylvester Williams, Missouri Southern DT Brandon Williams & UCLA DE Datone Jones.

David Quessenberry of San Jose St saw time at OT / OG and even some snaps at C. I've been pleasantly surprised!

----------------------------------

Shawn Zobel:

Mike Glennon had a better day today than the first two practices. Looked far more comfortable and delivered the ball with better accuracy

Ty Powell got one rep at DE in one-on-one's and tried to take the inside lane crossing the face of Ricky Wagner and couldn't get there

UCLA's Datone Jones looks the part of a player who has worked his way into first round discussion

George Kokinis, Sr. Personnel Assistant for the Ravens had Justin Pugh's ear for about 8-10 minutes after practice. #SeniorBowl

Chargers were talking to Eric Fisher after practice for a long time, I was thinking to myself "you need to trade up to get him".

---------------------------------

Matt Bowen:

DB that stood out at North squad practice this AM: Washington CB Desmond Trufant. Can play press, smooth in his transition skills.

Small school DT to keep an eye on: Brandon Williams (Missouri Southern). Showed some quickness off the ball in 1-on-1 drills.

Best 1-on-1 matchup of the AM session: CMU LT Eric Fisher vs. Texas DE Alex Okafor. #SeniorBowl

--------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Standout players from the practice today: QB Mike Glennon, WR Marquise Goodwin, LB Sio Moore, DT Sylvester Williams, and DT Brandon Williams

---------------------------------

Andrew Garda:

Nassib looked solid again today, good touch on his passes. Overall was solid this week. #seniorbowl

-------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

Bengals rep talked to TJ McDonald after practice

Saints rep talked to DT Brandon Williams after practice

Texans scout talked to David Quessenberry after practice today

---------------------------------

Jeff Risdon:

Terron Armstead added to South Roster, will be at practice this afternoon

----------------------------------

Scott Wright:

Saw the #Chargers talking with Central Michigan OT Eric Fisher after the North Senior Bowl practice this morning.

I asked #Texas WR Marquise Goodwin how fast he is going to run the forty. His answer? "Faster than everybody else - point blank".

Benjamin Allbright:

Tyler Wilson starts day 3 looking good, throwing the 9 route to T Williams. #SeniorBowl

Im not saying Landry Jones is the least accurate QB ive ever seen, but he wouldnt be the starter on my flag football team #SeniorBowl

----------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Mike James, new addMiamiFL RB, starting off well in pass protection and receiving drills. Not the best among RBs, but solid in both areas

----------------------------------

Andrew Garda:

Dysert continues to show wobbly mechanics and not a ton of improvement. #seniorbowl

Glennon was all over the place. Overall throws a really flat pass. No arc. Had a beauty touch pass long worthy of note. #seniorbowl

Franklin (UCLA RB) is great when he goes off tackle. Bounces outside too much. Won't fly in NFL needs to stop doing it

If Franklin stays inside he can do damage at the second level - bounces outside too much in Mobile tho #seniorbowl

Liked Barner as well today again. Hits the hole hard, good speed. Hard worker. #seniorbowl

Rouse was a mess again today. Too slow getting to the hole. Also bounces too much outside #seniorbowl

-------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

Lions WR coach just commented WR Terrence Williams better out of his stance than on Monday

Mike James comes in at 5'10 5/8 and 212 pounds

OL Armstead comes in 6'4 3/4 and 306 pounds. Arm length 32 7/8

Sanders Commings out for the week

WR Shepard comes in at 6'0 3/8 and 194 pounds

--------------------------------

Thomas Melton:

Jamie Collins is out again today and Sanders Commings isn't going today either. #seniorbowl

--------------------------------

Matt Miller:

Much more energy at South practice than the North.

Morning notes. Markus Wheaton impressive down the field. Most threatening WR on North.

Lions getting an up close look at Ezekiel Ansah. He'll be in play if available at #5.

Seeing Lane Johnson mentioned as a RT. Can't see him having strength to do that. He's purely a left tackle.

--------------------------------

Josh Norris:

Warford taking some pre-practice snaps at center

---------------------------------

Tony Pauline:

Terron Armstead/Arkansas Pine Bluff, star of the Shrine Game, here to replace Dallas Thomas

--------------------------------

Michael Schottey:

Going through OL agility drills, Mills (La Tech) has REALLY heavy feet. Between Johnson and Armstead he's a sore thumb

Aboushi through the bags, nice quick feet

Nico Johnson is wearing an Alabama helmet...that's the only thing impressive about him

More on Nico...just slow footwork, bad change of direction...all downhill but at NFL level he's going to get swallowed

Marc Anthony has been steady all week

--------------------------------

Benjamin Allbright:

Landry Jones with another would be pick 6... #SeniorBowl

Landry double clutching in 7v7

Landry had Wr open down seam, takes the easy money and dumps off. #SeniorBowl

EJ Manuel with a nice sideline throw putting the ball right where it needed to be for King #SeniorBowl

Let me make this very clear anyone tweeting Landry Jones is the best QB here in Mobile is wrong. Check their history on scouting qbs

EJ Manuel has definitely improved/benefited from the coaching here. Much better showing today than Monday #SeniorBowl

Landry good move to avoid sack, then throws another would be pick 6 #SeniorBowl

Landry needed.more.zip on that sideline pass. Had his man open, underthrew. #SeniorBowl

Manuel held ball.too long, dropped his shoulder, ball tipped and picked #SeniorBowl

Gillislee breaks another one. Seems im typing his name a lot for a non qb. #SeniorBowl

I'd tweet about Landry missing the check downs now, but Oklahoma fans will cry bias. So we'll ignore it. #SeniorBowl

Manuel drops his shoulder again, ball tipped, incomplete. #SeniorBowl

---------------------------------

Adam Caplan:

Out of the three QBs on the South team, Tyler Wilson has improved the most over the three days of practice.

--------------------------------

Eric Galko:

Kentucky OG Larry Warford impressing. Keeping hands inside. Holding ground well

LandryJones with a deep fade to "The General" Quinton Patton. First good deep ball for Landry.

Haven't watched much of FloridaSt LB Vince Williams before this week, but he's flashed in a variety of areas. Been one of the better LBs.

In what I watched of him today, certainly intrigued by EJ Manuel's play this week. Gotten better, especially downfield. Not a total "project"

Quinton Patton has a vibrant personality. Life of the party, entertaining guy. Seems to have a "personality", but in a good way. Funny guy.

Nico Johnson, Bama LB, has looked very good in the running game. Willing to drive/fill the gap, good instincts and vision.

---------------------------------

Shane Hallam:

TE Mychal Rivera making beautiful catch after beautiful catch

Terrence Williams turning it on early in practice down the field

Vance McDonald trucked Robert Lester on a pass route today

Stepfan Taylor can catch and tough runner. Looks quicker than I thought too this week

Jake Johnson joined team today. Got a calf/Achilles injury 15 minutes in. Was carted off. Ouch.

Bacarri Rambo also hurt and on table

Shawn Williams with a huge hit on Stepfan Taylor drew praise from teammates and coaches

Robert Alford looked natural fielding punts

Ziggy Ansah and Bacarri Rambo at the medical table. Ansah going back in

--------------------------------

Cecil Lammey:

Love Russell Shephard's athleticism, seemed a little nervous early at #SeniorBowl practice but settled down and began catching cleanly

Mike Gillislee once again struggled in pass pro (Backs on 'Backers) today, often missing target completely, did finish strong w/1 hard stop

-----------------------------------

Thomas Melton:

Sean Porter has a slight hitch in his giddy up something isn't right with him right now. Hope he doesn't make it worse by playing.

Cornelius Washington just beat Terron Armstead off the edge, then got pancaked on the next play. Armstead is a competitor I'll give him thag

I love Larry Warford. Doing a good job versus John Jenkins 1 on 1. Not many can do that. So strong in his lower half. Good hand replacement

Josh Boyd is performing better than I thought he would. I wasn't blown away by him at the Shrine Game

Schwenke can't block John Jenkins 1 on 1 but no offensive scheme in the NFL will ask him to. #Cal #seniorbowl

Sean Porter with a BIG hit at the LOS #Stud #LetHimRushThePasser #TexasA&M #seniorbowl

----------------------------------

Josh Norris:

Two good plays in a row from Ansah at strong side end. Able to press with strong hands, not get locked up

Malliciah Goodman is very similar to Frank Alexander. Has plenty of length but plays too close to his body too often.

FSU’s Everett Dawkins lining up at end a lot today. Was lighter than I expected from watching him live. 288.

--------------------------------

Tony Pauline:

Stepfan Taylor/RB/Stanford continues to shine. Annihilated Nico Johson/Alabama on a blitz pick up

Tommy Bohanon/FB/wake Forest throwing some nice blocks

EJ Manuel/QB looking a little better today

Terron Armstead/OL/Arkansas Pine Bluff looking real good today

Robert Lester/S/Alabama really struggling today

---------------------------------

Michael Schottey:

Stepfan Taylor (RB Stanford) is having a helluva week...beating LBs in pass drills and making tough catches

---------------------------------

Jared Tokarz:

My top 3 Senior Bowl QBs so far: 1) OU Landry Jones 2) Ark Tyler Wilson 3) NCSU Mike Glennon.

Senior Bowl: OU QB Landry Jones -the most impressive QB. NCSU QB Mike Glennon has shown he has the strongest arm but at times a bit erratic.

Nassib creating buzz
January, 23, 2013 12:22PM ET
By AJ Mass | ESPN.com Recommend

Ryan Nassib has spent many a weekend at Lincoln Financial Field in his life. The Syracuse University quarterback is a season ticket holder for the Philadelphia Eagles, so it delighted him no end when he met with the team at the Senior Bowl proceedings this week.

Nassib's stock continues to rise and it would not be surprising to see a team with a need at quarterback to select him somewhere in the first round, though if the Eagles were to make that move, odds are they'd either trade down to get him or wait until their second-round pick to do so.

Of course, with Doug Marrone now in place in Buffalo, one would not be surprised to see Nassib reunited with his former coach in the Bills huddle. In fact, the solid relationship between the two is sure to be giving Ryan Fitzpatrick nightmares already.

Notable players who impressed me today: Rb Stepfan Taylor, OT Lane Johnson, OG Larry Warford, LB Vince Williams, and Saf Shawn Williams.
