I think he would go great along side Anze Kopitar. Maybe give up Simmonds + prospect + a draft pick? nah..

I'm not sure that he's gonna get traded, atleast not this year. Why would a team that is struggling on offense trade away a tallent like him for denfense when they are playing really well on defense to begin with?

If you take in to account that Backstrom is also 6.7, yes. But in a vacuum, I don't think so. He was a 40 goal scorer last season, and while that is a little bit of a product of the team, you don't just score 40 goals in a season by playing on a team that scores alot.

Especially when you don't play on the same line as the team's two top scorers.

Not sure what to think of the signing. I guess it's good in the sense that I could see another team that really needs a scorer offering him a multi-year at $7+. When you look at the cap hit of the other guys that scored 40+ last year...

Marleau $6.9 mil
Gaborik $7.5 mil
Kovalchuk $6.7 to infinity and beyond
Crosby $8.7 mil
OV $9.5 mil
Stamkos $3.7 mil (EL)

...the salary seems very reasonable. His numbers are very consistent with Kovalchuk's over the last couple years. So at $6.7 mil for one year, it seems about right.

The contract doesn't contain a no trade clause. If the Caps feel they can't resign him during next season they can trade him. I was hoping he'd hit free agency come July 1st. I know he would probably NEVER sign with the Islanders but one can dream.

jeff carter is a former 40 goal scorer, and maybe i'm mistaken, but is a much better all-around forward than semin.. he's got a $5mil cap hit (5.2 hit kicks in next year).. maybe i'm just spoiled and carter has a great contract?

I think this as well. I think he goes to LA but maybe not Simmonds. I think Wash wants D back or maybe that is the prospect

Give up Handzus & D prospect. But I don't think LA is going to be sellers/buyers at this point.
