So I bet LMAFO is happy to not be part of the 2023 version of the beach ball series.

You guys know I'm the furthest from an Oilers fan that you can find, but Draisaitl deserved a star last night. That said, I love the snub lol
that’s like saying I’m not a Sean McDonough fan lol

The whole 3 star thing is very different south of the border. Well, at least in non-traditional hockey markets

  • If the home team wins, all 3 stars are from the home team
  • If the home team loses, they may not announce the 3 stars in the arena
  • If any visiting team is chosen as a star (rare) they NEVER skate out

Not at all how it was back in the day. The 3 stars is used as a feel-good opportunity to cheer the home team one last time. It is not at all an attempt to identify the best players in that game.

Yeah, traditionally the team that wins the game will get 2 of the 3 stars and will get all 3 stars if it is a dominating win. I will say that there were more than a few Oilers home games this season where the Oil lost the game yet received 2 out of 3 stars. It provides good water cooler talk if nothing else.

back in the day in cda ... didnt all the cdn teams have the molson cup 3 stars ... they would get points for each game star they earned and the teams kept the standing at the end the winner would get some extra cash.

Always cheered for Tony Tanti to win every year because its not like there were canucks wins to cheer for :noidea:

/Tanti won sweet f a with the canucks... Molson Cup

That's right, they would announce the Molson Cup winner for each month during the season as well and yes there would be a nice cash bonus for the Molson Cup winner at the end of the season.

Essentially the Oiler fans are pissed Draisaitl didn’t get a participation trophy.

jesus, another reminder of the dark years

Garth Snow wins it in 98-99 with a 20W-31L-8T record. (6 shutouts somehow though)
Messier in 99-00 with a whopping 17 goals, 54 points - leadership, baby!

And one final 3 Stars comment:

For the final Preds home game this year, the 3 Stars were:

  1. YOU, the fans for supporting us all year
  2. The Preds players who played so hard
  3. The 17,189 in attendance for the game

I kid you not. Considering we just lost to the Colorado scrubs, it particularly did not go ever well with this fan.
