and the fans still probably think they are the best team in the NHL just having those guys. well that is ANOTHER year of those guys wasted.. McDavid will be a UFA at the end of the 2025-26 season so they better hope the cap goes up significantly to hopefully sign some depth to help those guys. I do not feel bad for this team at all. Seems pretty clear that Woodcroft is only surviving because he has those 2 guys. it is like a free job knowing they will score 200+ points between the 2 of them alone

Contrast the Oilers with The Canes. Their top scorer is 23rd in the playoffs with 10 points. They're missing 3 top 6 forwards but that team is the favourite in my eyes of the remaining team. Well coached, attention to detail and deep blueline. Kind of the anti-Oilers.
