Governor of Nevada: "The shooting is an unprecedented event in our nation's history. We're going to have to learn from this"

Like you haven't learned anything from all the previous mass shootings? The bellwether for me was Sandy Hook, since no change occurred from the mass killing of children, I really don't expect much to change with this latest mass shooting either.

Sadly dasher. I agree with you.

We are keep going around this again and again

One question:

Why do all 2nd Amendment gunslingers ignore the words, "a well-regulated militia?"

well REGULATED

WELL REGULATED

Also: "militia"

Whenever someone thumps those 250 year old words, I always want to say that owning a gun should get you a tour of duty automatically. More guns, more tours.

Since they are all into being heroes and shit. You can have your gun. Just spend 6 months in Afghanistan, Captain America.

If 500,000 cancer and ebola carrying fire ants crawled up his rectum, laid eggs and those fire ants ate their way out of his body starting with his genitals, it would be too good a fate for him.

There was a Supreme court ruling that the 2nd Amendment applied to private citizens, as well as militias. Which would extend the "well regulated" clause to them as well. Simple. Gun control does not violate the 2nd Amendment in any way.

If the 2nd Amendment itself is a barrier to enacting real gun control reform, at some point we should have realized that the work and challenge of writing a new Amendment to affect it was worth saving lives.

But that work isn't even necessary--or shouldn't be. Human lives are worth more than 241-year-old words.

I actually had a physical cry regarding this shooting. The fact that so many lives have been lost in these events. Seriously when society doesn't act properly after sandy hook there is no hope for it, fuck those that scream rights for guns... Fuck them.

It's just so frustrating. Over and over.

At least it hasn't been schools of late.....tiny silver lining.

Or even removing the Dickey Amendment to allow the CDC funding to research these events.
Oh that is right the NRA will lobby against it and win. Sadly they know the reality of the situation of real research was able to be done.

The NRA can do whatever the hell they want to do; our representatives were elected for the interests of Americans in general, and we're who they're supposed to answer to, and our best interests, not the NRA.

I totally agree with you but we know who lines the pockets of the representatives always win.

Sad but you have to watch John Oliver to get the reality.

^ I might add when I called my congressman last time the response I got was that the dickey law was put in place so the CDC would not abuse their powers. :L I fully expect to get the same response again but I will keep calling.

And on another note he is the same guy that compared the EPA to terrorism.

Chicago is the snowball some dipshit brings in to the building to say global warming isn't happening. Also ignores lax gun laws in the states near Illinois which are easily driveable within an hour.

But while we're on the subject, yes, ending the drug war and legalizing some narcotics would reduce violence in Chicago.

Also, here's the new formula since "now is not (ever) the time" to talk about these things.

After racial injustice, let's talk about climate change.
After natural disasters, let's talk about gun control.
After mass shootings, let's talk about racially equitable laws and policing.

So what is the "solution"?

Ban guns altogether? Forget the 2nd Amendment for a moment. Lets park that to one side.

Is there a solution?

I don't have one.

It is obvious that won't happen. But items like the Dickey Amendment that blocks funding for research is something we can start with by pressuring our congressmen to repeal it.
