Guns And KKK Members At Gettysburg Confederate Rally, But No Foes To Fight

:L - for the whole thing!

and the last paragraph

But the only person actually shot Saturday in Gettysburg with a real bullet was a 23-year-old militia group member named Benjamin Hornberger, of Shippensburg, Pennsylvania. According to U.S. Park police, Hornberger triggered his revolver when the flag pole he was carrying bumped against his gun holster. The bullet went into his leg. Police say officers quickly applied a tourniquet, likely saving his life.

:L - Darwin must have been sleeping.

I still think it was more a vote against Hillary/vote for change rather than people voting for Donald.

You'd think that...and then you listen to people who voted for him

Yes, but also it was a vote for a return to a time when you could have a high school degree and build yourself a nice middle class life as a homeowner and some nice cars in the driveway, ya know, tinged with a bit of racism. And that crowd sees changes in race relations, Mexicans, muslims, or insert group to hate here _____ as the REASON for that not being life anymore. But it's actually international economic trends that with or without NAFTA, etc. would have taken place anyway in this zero sum pie. And we had a time where we got way more than our share of the pie. And maybe for the first time in history, that was accomplished without massive human suffering, so that was cool for us and most of our allies. But it doesn't last forever and trying to pin that decline on PCism, trade agreements, diversity, our job killing health policies, or our job killing environmental policies just isn't true. But that's the narrative those people have been given. Because understanding the complex world of trade, corporatism, and macroeconomic trends is hard, but understanding "hey, there are more brown people now" is easy. Sad, but fucking easy.

And they believe it. Because they aren't educated. And they don't know history, much less understand and learn from it. And the poor, ignorant, and fragile are most easily suckered in to absurd promises that don't really make sense (we'll leave the Paris accords and reduce the environmental regulations but have the best water and the best air because? ...sure).

Darn lawyers and judges looking out for the environment :D

An appeals court Monday struck down the Environmental Protection Agency’s two-year suspension of new emission standards on oil and gas wells, a decision that could set back the Trump administration’s broad legal strategy for rolling back Obama-era rules.

In a 2-to-1 ruling, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit concluded that the EPA had the right to reconsider a 2016 rule limiting methane and smog-forming pollutants emitted by oil and gas wells but could not delay the effective date for two years while it sought to rewrite the regulation.

“The court’s ruling is yet another reminder, now in the context of environmental protection, that the federal judiciary remains a significant obstacle to the president’s desire to order immediate change,” Richard Lazarus, an environmental-law professor at Harvard Law School, said in an email.

“The D.C. Circuit’s ruling today makes clear that neither the president nor his EPA administrator, Scott Pruitt, can by fiat unilaterally and instantaneously repeal or otherwise stay the effectiveness of the environmental protection rules put into place during the Obama administration,” he added.
