Contract terms unknown but like the signing.

Rubin is a great run stuffer and while he was mediocre in 2014 suffered some nagging injuries. Overall he's a high motor/intensity player.

Like the move for depth and offers us rotation on running downs. Might fill the shoes of Red Bryant which was certainly a loss last season.

All depends on the contract terms but like the player. Surrounding him with a far better defense favorably elevates his chances of play as well.

Edit: Reportedly a 1 year deal which generally always works out, especially for a younger player.

Seems like a big body, Vince Wilfork type. Not something we have a lot of, so maybe a good add to the current group.

Though about starting a thread about him. He played well in a 4-3, but not in a 3-4 and was hamstrung with a ankle injury last year. Holgrem was really high on the guy. His production the last few years have been meh, but some speculate that he just wasn't a fit for the 3-4 defense. Could be one for those nice finds.

I like this signing. He fits our team just fine. Staunch defender, plays to the whistle, high motor, high effort.

Our kind of guy.

We needed more weight upfront... Dude looks like he can hold the line for sure... I like it .... You always need weight to hold the line vs the Run ... Let the guy's behind you clean up house... I wonder if this means Mebane might be on his way out ? Imagine those 2 guy's at the DT position ... hard to move that pile ...

This signing could be for lots of reasons.
It was reported by Mebane or someone that his recovery is going along fine and ahead of schedule IIRC. It could be Kevin Williams unsure about retiring? It could be as simple as added depth.
He has been stuck on the Browns since he came into the league. I think once he gets here, our team will invigorate him and we will be happy he is on this team.

I don't think he's replacing Mebane, maybe McDaniels. Hopefully just added for depth and competition.

Considering the line was destroyed by injuries, i'll have to say this is a signing for added depth. I do like the signing too cause you can never have enough run stoppers.

I think the competition is the largest reason for the signing. He takes Jesse Williams' spot. He'll get a shot to take to someones spot, but he's mainly here to keep people from getting complacent.

Some guys just can't play 3-4. That is probably why NE was not chasing him with a pen. Pats need that versatility.
Could have been a back-up there though. Wonder what the deal was.....

$6,600,000 Now I know why NE wasn't signing him.....
Did Seattle really have to pay that much to get him?

Rubin signed for 3.1 mil

Even that has an asterix. IIRC the wording was "could be worth up to $3.1M."

$1M SB was a bit steep, though.

Rubin's contract is a $1M guaranteed ($1M signing bonus) $3.1M contract.

It's obviously a prove it deal after Rubin's lackluster 2014 which in part was due to injuries. When healthy, Rubin is a high motor player and one of the league's best run stuffers. He'll be used similar to Red Bryant on running downs and rotational depth.

Expect him to play with an intense motor 2015 since he's obviously playing for a larger contract.

A grade signing. A+ would've been sub $3M.

Might be an A+ after all

I doubt they line this guy up at DE. I see Seattle using him more as a LDT or a RDT. Pete will try him at different positions to see where he is most efficient. I expect him to either start or backup at one of the T spots.

Looks like a good pick-up at that price with the show me contract.....
