As I said before the game with the Spartans- beating them would not cure our ills and losing to them does not mean we will be kicked to the curb. There is a ton of games yet to be played. Not only did Northwestern beat us on Saturday, Iowa beat Michigan and Indiana and Minnesota nearly upset he Ohio State University and the Spartans respectively. In this conference, anything can happen. We could go 3-0 the rest of the season or lose all 3. The Spartans could slip against Iowa or Northwestern. Division Championship is still within reach.

Watching MSU struggle with Minny was encouraging.

At least the rest of the teams on our schedule have winning records, so there's that too

Our division is a HUGE clusterfuck. The odds are that Iowa wins this Saturday ( MSU hasnt won in IC since 1989), Michigan has to play Illinois and you guys get PSU. Shit there could easily end up a 4 way tie with all teams having 3 losses by years end. I think MSU still is the prohibitive favorite since their schedule is the easiest of the 4 etams but going to IC and to NW is no picnic. Trying to decipher a 4 way tie at 5-3 would be pretty fun :)

No worries Smart... our intention is to win the next three and hope for some help from Iowa/Northwestern when they play MSU... did not have to be this way... but it is what it is... we screwed up this past weekend... plain and simple.

I suspect the Big Ten will be up in the air until the final second of the final regular season game..

The screw up has been identified. Northwestern ran ran and ran some more and attacked the middle of the defense. This has been the weakness of the defense all season. Our running game is non-existent after Rex and he is gassed. We didn't screw up. Northwestern won fair and square.

Yep they did win fair and earned it...

But we screwed up... and rather than me explaining how... I will post what another husker poster stated who made a good point in another thread...

OK...here goes

1st, the defense cannot stop a duel threat QB with the package that Pelini plays with. Forget about athletes, forget about David, Dennard, Et Al. Cannot be done. No team can rush 4 guys 85% of the time & play 2 high safeties a majority of the game and expect to get off the field. Credit Northwestern for working the middle of the field until we adjusted...we didn't. They killed us on crossing routes over the middle, they killed us with that huge bomb early in the 4th & if you watch this film over again, you will see that 0 catches of significance were made outside the hash-marks. NONE. They ran the ball right down our throats, and why not? We only played with 6, maybe 7 in the box all game.

By your standards, the Spartans screwed up against us.....plain and simple.

I think they did... If I was MSU... I would have ran the ball straight at our line while we were standing upright... (gimmick D)

Would that have changed the outcome... don't know... but you are partially correct...

Seems like teams now have the blueprint to beat us. I also think Bo/Carl are to stubborn to try to make adjustments for the weakness on the D. We have known about it all year and what did they do to fix it? Nothing.

We lost due to multiple problems. Covering the middle was just one of them.

Correct but it seems to be the most glaring and obvious.

Stop the 81 yard pass and have rex score a Td instead of fumble. Puts NU in more of a passing offense

Right but does the crossing pattern not reflect on the weak middle of the D?

The problems have been there all year, not like they just popped up against NW. I hate that we lost, but it really wasn't a big surprise

Thorell played like doody.. so did Ciante..

that be why we lost the game on D.

well, that and the coaches still thinking Suh's on the D-line and not bringing extra pressure.
