Sather must perform his due diligence and be aggressive about it. Girardi, who doesn’t turn 30 until late April, is as high-end a rental property as has gone on the market since Ilya Kovalchuk in 2010, if not Marian Hossa in 2008. The Rangers have every right — and every obligation — to demand a package of two “A” prospects, maybe already in the NHL or maybe not, plus a draft pick in return for Girardi.

What’s more, Sather must take exactly the same approach with Ryan Callahan, who too is a heart-and-soul guy but also is an impending unrestricted free agent and is likely to be a more expensive and more challenging signing than Girardi.

Losing either, or both, would represent an immediate step back, of that there is no doubt. But it is always worthwhile to take one step back in order to take two or three steps forward.
And it is far, far more worthwhile than standing in place, which for years generally has been somewhere between sixth and ninth in the East.

Guess it all depends on the contract he wants, he's looked better the last two weeks.

PROSPECTS .......well then if that be the case do something with Hank as well if you are going to get rid of Girardi and Callahan. Isnt there any team that wants to take over Hanks contract?
we could keep Talbot and go for a new backup since you want to Dump the perviously mentioned

NTC, Hank wont be getting moved. If they wanted to move him, they would have done so before they signed him.

Main thing is to trade Del Zotto IMO. That relationship is becoming toxic.

I know this, they will want a reliable top-6 winger + a top-4 defender probably. Nobody will pay that for a potential rental.

Just to add.

If Girardi is moved, the Rangers want a young defenseman and a young forward as part of a package in return.

It's unclear who the Ducks are willing to part with, but it's believed the Rangers would be looking at least for defenseman Sami Vatanen with one of forwards Kyle Palmieri, Patrick Maroon and Rickard Rakell, drafted 30th overall in 2011.

A number of teams will be interested in Girardi if he is officially available for trade, a several, other than the Ducks, have already inquired about his status.

The Fourth Period :: Anaheim Ducks :: Ducks, Rangers talking Girardi deal

Exactly what I proposed.

While Dan Girardi and Ryan Callahan are the Rangers who could probably get the most return as trade chips, there isn’t any evidence to suggest that Glen Sather has made either Callahan or Girardi available to other teams or any evidence suggesting that he might. (NY Post)
Girardi would be a top target of teams looking to add on defense but what he would bring to another team, as a right shot defenseman who eats up minutes, is needed by the Rangers. (NY Post)
The Penguins could have interest in Callahan as they look for replacements for Pascal Dupuis but the idea of Callahan potentially scoring a lot in the playoffs and helping the Penguins eliminate the Rangers is not something Sather wants to consider. (NY Post)
