So Washington is pitching Gio Gonzalez tonight. I think they should give it to Strasburg on three days rest, and if he could get game four, then the Nats could throw Zim for game five.

Why? They have to win both games regardless so game 5 is equally as important as game 4. Historically, modern pitchers do HORRIBLE on 3-days rest. The Nats are stacked enough at SP that they do not have to pull desperate stunts like that.

Strasburg is their ace. It's win or go home for the Nats, and I just think Strasburg, even on three days rest, he gives Washington a better chance of winning than what Gonzalez does. And, I want Nats to win!

I (obviously) want the Giants to win, and if I could chose between Gio/Stras on regular rest and Stras/Zim on short rest, I would rather face Stras/Zim on short rest.

3rd in team wins
4th in ERA
4th in Whip
4th in ERA+

This. Plus, anyone remember the shutdown issue two years ago? They still treat him with kid gloves, so they're not going to pitch him on short rest.

Maybe/hopefully one day soon he will be our ace. But he is not right now.

That doesn't surprise me, and it's probably the correct decision.

I still say Strasburg gives the Nationals a better chance of winning this game tonight.

I agree on Strasburg not being their ace right now, but he also led the team in innings. Do innings not matter for a starting pitcher?

In the macro context, quite important. In a single game, a bit more dubious.

Agreed. In the Marathon that is the regular season, IP, I feel, is actually one of the most important stats going. Not only does it show durability, it also shows effectiveness (if you suck, you are not getting a lot of innings).

On a "Who do you want to go when your back is against the wall", IP is just one of the factors you look at. But it is a factor. I want my stud to have a good chance of going 7+.

Not sure if this has been posted yet but this is still how I still see the Nats.

That isn't what he was saying though. He said through the course of ONE season it is a good judge. It is a big factor in Cy Young voting for instance.

Obviously those 3 are going to be high up on a 10 year list....they have pitched for the last 10 years lol.

There are also outliers.

Pedro was not an innings guy, but he was still one of the most dominant pitchers ever.
