The Padres got Kennedy for Thatcher, Matt Stites Pitcher in AA & our compensatory draft pick AFTER the 2nd round.

Kennedy has had a bad year. He can't seem to put guys away like he did the past 2 years. Hopefully that changes when he comes to Petco.

I'd love for him to come here, work with Balsley and be a solid #3 pitcher for us. :hope:

They look like twins. At the end Gyorko is looking like he wants to go over there and break that fight up. :eyebrows:

We know he has the ability. It's up to Kennedy, Black & Balsley to find what his problem has been this year & solve it. I like the fact we have him for 2 plus years if we want. If he comes back to form & the Padres are out of it near the deadline next year Byrnes will get much more than he gave up to get him. I see this trade as a low risk high reward move. The Padres didn't give up much for a guy who has the talent to be the ace of the staff.

That's certainly one way to look at it but we're going to miss Thatcher is some situations and I hate giving up a young guy in AA with 97+ MPH stuff. But the potential for this helping both clubs is most certainly there.

There were times in the past few years when I cringed everytime Thatcher took the mound. He's had a solid year, but he can be replaced. The Padres have Quackenbush & Ramon Madrid who could be closers in the future. I really don't understand why Quack hasn't been given a shot in the Big Leagues yet. We had to give up something to get Kennedy. At least it wasn't one of our better pitching prospects like Sampson, Andreise, Wisler, Efflin, Ross or any of the many other talented pitching prospects in the Padres system.

We got a guy who could be the ace of the staff or at worst the #3 starter next year for very little as far as I'm concerned.

Our plan with the loss of Everth Cabrera for the rest of the season:

I keep thinking that we're going to be a force in 2014.

Anyone else see Darren Balsley go out and rip Edinson a new one right before the end of the 6th? I could see Bud was pissed in the dugout too. Everyone is so weary of the act on the mound.

Would love to see the Padres cause some mayhem next year in the NL West (except when they play the Royals next year)

I have high hopes. If this pitching is as good as it looks and we can finally score some runs and have stability in CF, things will be good.

Here's a little bit of news regarding the Anthony Bass trade.

Padres Sign Xavier Nady

The Padres have signed first baseman/outfielder Xavier Nady to a minor league contract with an invitation to Spring Training, according to MLB.com's Corey Brock (on Twitter).
Nady, a client of Scott Boras, last appeared in the Majors in 2012, batting .184/.253/.316 in 166 plate appearances between the Nationals and Giants. By signing in San Diego, he returns to the organization that drafted in the second round back in 2000. Nady spent parts of five seasons in the Majors with the Padres and was a semi-regular player in the Majors in the middle of the last decade.
In his best years, from 2005-08, Nady hit .284/.339/.474, averaging 486 plate appearances and 19 home runs per season with the Padres, Pirates, Mets and Yankees. He split last season between the Triple-A affiliates for the Rockies and Royals, posting a robust .296/.360/.456 slash line with 15 homers and 26 doubles.
