One has to ask....

Why is Fields still in Chicago???

I guess Peters is the man....would NOT surprise me at all.
Good question.

Money?
Bears bluffing?
They just traded for Allen from the Chargers, so I doubt they still want MHJ.

Fields film must be bad.

I like Sam Howell. He has a high ceiling imo. He was cheated here of truly being able to grow. I wish him well and hope he goes on to have a solid career.

We never got a good reading on Sam, sort of like what Spurrier did to Ramsey. Both suffered shell shock from poor lines and or poor coaching.

Trading for Fields as a 1-year back-up is fine if the Bears will trade him cheaply, (and their trade valuation is unknown). There's no upside or future reward for taking that path. 1st round rookies who don't have their 5th year options picked up don't qualify for the compensatory pick formula. That back-up option has to be weighed up against having a more traditional QB like Garoppolo or Tannehill as a cheap back-up.

Trading for Fields as something more than that is problematic. He has a cheap 1-year deal before he becomes a FA. His 5th year option would cost $25.66M and it would be fully guaranteed. Either way if there wasn't a better QB on the team he could threaten to hold out for starter money. Spotrac has his future Market value at $47.1M and Fields may believe it. Would a $47M QB play for $3.23M? Any team trading a high pick for him has to have a clear plan of action.

You know what Dean.
I am going to do you a favor and leave you alone. Have fun terrorizing the board.

The funny thing is that you now applaud what you fought so hard against. Must be odd seeing Peters rip down what you so faithfully supported.

not terrorizing at all. that is what you are doing.

If the rookie QB isn't ready or the OL situation isn't right they'll put the #2 QB in there as cannon fodder to achieve what he can short-term. Management preferred Mariota as an experienced 'unfavourable situation' QB to putting Howell out there. Mariota doesn't have developmental potential but they don't want that from a #2 when they have a highly prized rookie QB. They want the slightly better immediate performance. Additionally Mariota will be expected to mentor the rookie, and Howell doesn't have the knowledge or experience to do that either. It is what it is. I'm sad to see Howell move on. It's a fail for him and the franchise, but not every prospect succeeds in a tough situation or does so within such a short time frame.

I think the #2 overall pick starts week 1.

I did butt in...you are correct.
Others do advocate a trade up...you are correct.
It is an opinion board...you are correct.

I am dropping from the discussion.

Have a good weekend Dean...you do you.
Be safe
Happy St. Patrick's Day
May you be absolved of all your sins and transgressions.....whatever the statement says.

Peace

There was a bidding war for Sam according to Schneider of the Seahawks. Said they were sweating.

if there was a bidding war, im surprised a team didn't just offer a 3rd round pick straight. Like the Raiders for example. Gk was right. He said 3rd, but it was a swap with our 4th.

Most Bears fan are out on him it seems.
All I want to hear is lets see if this guy will develop into a franchise quarterback.

Preordaining them draft day eventually has to stop. But these people getting paid to write articles on websites dont really care if they are ever right or wrong, they still get to write articles.

I don't either. 36 and 40 probably gets us 22 imo

Here is a team moving up:

The Vikings will have another first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Minnesota is acquiring 2024 first- (No. 23) and seventh-round (No. 232) picks from Houston in exchange for 2024 second- (No. 42) and sixth-round (No. 188) picks, and a 2025 second-rounder, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported Friday, per sources.
The Vikings will now have the Nos. 11 and 23 overall picks in the first round come April 25.
Around the NFL will have more on this trade shortly.

Minn moving up 19 picks for and 6th, and 2nd next year.

What is the value of what the Skins got for Howell? Does that equate to a late 3rd/early-4th or, depending on the value chart you use, is it more of a 5th?
