Yeah, I'd be really upset if that happened to the 49ers. QB Fumble, but the refs blowing it dead so almost nobody went for it. That seems like a really craptastic decision on their part.

The ref thought it was an incomplete pass therefore blowing the play dead....Saints catch a break on that.

Had they blown it dead after the hit, Schwartz would've challenge and won it as the lions clearly recovered it...

but the side ref blew the whistle i think after the recovery which begs, why?

The hand was empty when his hand went forward, so by rule that is a fumble because Brees wasn't gripping the ball when he went through the throwing motion. But, as luck would have it he still hit the ball forward so it seemed like a forward pass to whichever guy was blowing it dead before it was even recovered.

*edit* and I'm guessing the Referee or someone else overruled whichever guy initially ruled it an incomplete pass
