Question... how is he going to be cut? He is free agent currently. Now the Skins could elect not to resign him which wouldnt shock me. Not saying its the right move, but it wouldnt shock me either.

Free agent Reed Doughty....sounds good to me!! To all of his supporters, take heart, he is the Mark Murphy of his generation and will probably end up doing a very good job as a GM in this league.

I would wait until before camp, but if he's still available, I'd sign him to compete for a slot. He's still one of our better ST players.

I have to laugh at people who don't like Reed Doughty and who root against him. It's not hard to see those who did not play this sport for any amount of time. People who played football for a number of years appreciate a player like Doughty. How do you not root for a guy who is undersized, lacks the speed most NFL safties has yet lasts 8 years in the league? He has done anything he was asked to do and he did it to the best of his ability. How many safeties have had eight year careers here? It is easy to see the couple of times he was burned instead of the hundreds of times he was in the right place making a solid play. He is a football players player.

The Mark Murphy comment is laughable. I guess that is a white reference because there is no similarity in their games at all. Murphy was a starting FS on a Super Bowl winning team and Doughty is a back up strong safety.

So if all you root for is star players than Doughty isn't your man but if you root for guys that know how to play the game but don't have the gift of size and speed then Doughty is the kind of guy you'll cheer for. Meanwhile the team can bring in more safeties that are faster and bigger but are only here a couple of years.

BTW Alvin Walton would be a good comparison to Doughty. He also was a SS that was very good in run support but limited in coverage. Primarily deep coverage against wideouts.

Could not agree more Sportster. I think people lose sight of the real goal and feel that play makers is what makes a good team. When the reality is, good teams make play makers.

I agree about Doughty but your jab is way off base Shark. Do you think Doughty deserves 3 million a year?

Reed Doughty can play on my team anyday. Not start 16 games btw... But play on ST and fill in when needed.

GK... I could care less what Doughty gets paid. He wasnt making nearly that for the last eight years and there where a litany of fans every year hoping he would get cut. And it wasnt for the money he was making. It swas always, well he isnt a play maker, he sucks. But every team needs a few guys who simply will run thru a brick wall for his team mates even if they arent the most talented guys on the field. Skins fans are so desperate for play makers that they cant appreciate simply good football players and look for every reason to move onto the next guy or chase after the next play making FA. And before you say well Doughty wasnt that good. Sorry man but you dont survive THREE coaching changes and stay on the same team when you suck.

You and I have been going back and forth on Perry Riley and you are stating people like me don't want him because he's not a playmaker. It simply isn't true. I don't want to pay him 7 million because he's not worth close to that. I don't want to pay Doughty 3 mil because he's not worth close to that.

I want to pay Riley 4 mil/season because that's his worth. I want to pay Doughty 1 mil because that's his worth.

I would pay Riley 5 mil and Doughty 1.5 mil because they are almost worth that.

But the whole thing is, you are trying to determine their worth not based on how they help this team. But by comparing them to other teams "play Makers" whom you feel are worthy. And no I dont direct this at you alone. But there have been tons of comments that Rak, Riley and many other redskins players are simply not worth bringing back at market value for their positions because they arent game changers. That to me says that some fans value other teams players more than our own. But Im geting used to that from this team and fan base.

And that right there is why this team keeps spinning its wheels. You dont sign a bunch of play makers and make it work. You build a team and play makers come out of it.

Madden NFL 2013 that might work. But ask Eagles fans how well the last dream team worked out?? Hell ask Dan Snyder how the dream team before that worked out. You dont build a team in FA, you build it by drafting well, and having roster AND coaching stability.
