This guy is young (25) and I believe he's a free safety. I'm not sure how much he'll want, but he's worth keeping on our radar. He went to the Pro-Bowl in 2014, though I don't know how he played last year, when he was stuck with an RFA tender. If we can get him for a decent deal, that would be a coup.

I agree. We have to upgrade the secondary for sure. If we have a top 10 defense, I believe we will be really good.

I contue to believe center and FS are our 2 biggest immediate needs. I am so sick of Band Aids at free safety, we need a guy who can make plays amd we've needed it since Sean Taylor. We won't be real active in free agency but one or two big moves like this could really make a difference.

Agreed. We're paying Dashon Goldson $8M this year (all in non-guaranteed salary). If we cut him, we clear that amount of space and can then sign someone like Gipson for less than that.

Gipson has been notoriously up and down far as on the field performance according to some sources.

The big question here is which Gipson are you getting? The 2014 version that was one of the best free safeties in the NFL and had a top-10 coverage grade, or the 2015 version that was all too often out of position and had a bottom 10 coverage grade. The truth is, probably somewhere in between, as the entire Browns' defense was in shambles last season. At only 25 years of age, Gipson's asking price may not be worth that risk.

PFF considers him only the 5th best safety in FA. I believe they also had Brian Orakpo rated as the #3 player overall and top OLB when he hit FA So take what you will from PFF's ranking of Gipson.
