Safety question

Stewart...Giordano... Is this enough? And will the Rams resign Mikell before the season starts?.

I was just curious as to what your thoughts were. I'm one of those that still think the Safety position is the glue of the Defense.

Rambunctious. We have quite a few safeties in camp albeit many are rookies and damn good ones at that. Along with Stewart and Giordano, there is T. McDonald, who will probably start, Cody Davis who will see significant playing time (both are talented), Matt Daniels, and Cannon Smith.

The Rams are not going to re-sign Mikell unless there is a rash of injuries which I don't think will happen. I don't expect Giordano will make the final cut. He is old and slow. He was brought in to be more of a mentor. He has experience and a superbowl ring (he got that with Indy). So Fisher brought him in for his locker room influence and mentoring skills.

Not to mention McCloud, he's supposed to be pretty good as well.

I wouldn't be worried about our backfield that much. We have two guys that have plenty of experience in Gio and Stewart. While I don't expect both of them to start they will provide solid knowledge to the rookies and younger players. I expect to see a Stewart, Mcdonald/Gio mix. Each of them will come in with the different defensive packages.

Yea I agree jaco. I also see Cody Davis playing a lot of football. He is a tough kid and I have seen put a lickin on a few folks.

I hope so. I'm sure a couple of the rookies will be strictly ST/backup roll players for a year or two. It would be nice to see a undrafted free agent make a difference or the pro bowl.

Its weird to see how little emphasis STL has put on the position over the years after Atogwe. I'm not sure its that important of a position until you run into teams like New England who go out of their way to exploit Safeties. Every player on a defense matters.

I would not be surprised if Davis and McDonald aren't the starters by the end of the year. I think these two kids are going to be the safeties we all have been looking for since Atogwe.

Ray Ray Armstrong is being moved to OLB, but he could play some safety as well.

Stewart has to stay healthy. I read 1 article (good break down of those on roster) that had Stewart and McDonald starting. Another article discussed Mikell and noted he was top against the run but that opposing QB's had something like a 107 rating when they threw on him. Can't find that one at the moment.

I agree with my boy retro... Davis and McDonald have both looked spectacular in early workouts. I think when we take the field week 1, the DB's will be Finnegan,Davis,McDonald,Jenkins. Ray Ray Armstrong will make the team for his versatility as he played SS in college but has bulked up some to play OLB.

who the hell mentioned McCloud?? the same loser who was getting flagged left and right on ST last season?? umm No..he will not start and if he struggled to play ST then he definitely won't see any game time. He shouldn't be on the team..as a matter of fact im going to take some PTO and try out just so he doesn't make it smh...
