I was impressed with Jeffcoat when he played at west plano high but then he went to Austin and I haven't seen that player since. Talk about no regard for the run and just gets up field, time and time again while the ballcarrier runs right past him. Kinda shocking considering who his Daddy is and all.

sam or jeffcoat

I guess Sam if we have to

Yeah, that's true he is a pin-your-ears back guy.

Not sure either ever do anything in the league, but the fact we are talking about our PS tells you exactly how bad things were last year. Hope we don't see a repeat.

So we had the choice of Sam or Jeffcoat? One is the Son of a Goree great the other is the FIRST openly gay player. Both are ons dimensional rush the passer players. One (Jeffcoat) would have brought local media attention the other (Sam) brought national media attention.

I do see the football sense here but the media attention played a part in Jerry's decision.

Im with Manster, I don't think Sam has anything to offer at the NFL level unless he is able to beef up and maintain speed.

But I see this as a no risk opportunity. Put him on the 53 because we need guys there, and if he does end up helping then good for us. If he never does anything, well, isn't that what a vast majority of PS players do...nothing?

One thing about this that could upset me is players we didn't sign as we went after Sam...and that is Jackson Jeffcoat. He was sitting out there, and I'm not sure if he was even willing to sign with us but I would rather have had him on this PS than Sam, if it was ever an option.

Take away all the circus with Sam, and I think he is a great pick up for the PS. We gave up a lot to get Lawrence because he had potential as a pass rusher. Sam had a ton of sacks against SEC competition, and then had another 3-4 this preseason. Even if his only trait is as a pass rusher, we got him for basically nothing. I could see him developing into a pass rusher at the minimum

Bottom line - although 30 teams passed on him he does represent an upgrade to what they currently have. He looked good in preseason.

IDK...Sam had a couple of sacks and he was described as a hard worker....those are very valuable as well. Jeffcoat was an 'entitled' guy at TU...one of the reasons they tanked so bad the past few years....so I would rather have a guy who wants it, rather than one who thinks it is his...

Jeffcoat was a bust in College an overated Texas Longhorn. We did not need him. I would rather have Sam then him. Sam was a good college player.

Jackson just wont filll daddys shoes. Jimmy kept trying to get rid of jeffcoat but could not because he was an animal at de. My favorite jeffcoat moment was when he speared obrien in the back after the jets ol chop blocked him
