They'll sign someone off the streets. There are a lot of pro punters floating around who can step in and do a fine job on short notice... you just can't sign them mid game so they had to adjust in both the punting and the holding duties. I'm surprised Mallett doesn't hold, though.

And as impressed as I am with Gostkowski, he's not even an average punter. In the context of saving the day when the team's actual punter goes out it was heroic but he can't be your plan going forward.

There are guys off the street to be signed. If Allen can't go he's probably IR'd and we pick someone up. Ghost is no punter, quality emergency effort or not.

The Pats had two punters in earlier this season for tryouts. I believe at least one of them is still a free agent. If Allen is IR'd, a street free agent shouldn't be too hard to find. Too bad Zoltan signed with the Bengals.
